It's really entertaining. Rare muscianship here fellas. The Providence concert is with his electric band, though there are, quite a few extra clips from other performances, including a couple of acoustic tunes from way back and from an Austin City Limits performance, which I understand is to be another forthcoming DVD. Warning: no Ovations to be seen.

No one else plays like him, acoustic, electric, you name it. Just made my first "iTunes" on-line purchase yesterday - a special iTunes EP with three songs recorded live (now I have to share-out my work PC with my home PC so I can play them at home  ). And I have tickets to see him for a fourth time coming up at Poor David's Pub in Dallas, April 18th. He's solo this time. Anybody else going??

He could play Clapton, Page and Beck off any stage in the world (probably at the same time) if he wanted to. His lack of ambition to be a star is just one of his many good points. A truly nice guy but I wish he'd get over wearing the baseball cap - he's English and the truth is we just don't know how to do it.

Having heard OF him, but not being overly familiar with him, I bought a live CD of his that had just come out about a year and a half ago. Ended up returning it two days later . . . It just didn't "click" with me (if fact, I was a little "irked" by some of it). Perhaps I need to re-visit . . . (I've heard a version of "Dimming of the Day" that David Gilmour did that I really liked)

Sending RT over more than tips the scales back in your favor. That's a great story. What's the line about Mad Dogs and Englishman...now that Richard lives in sunny southern California, the ball cap offers UV protection. and sorry to hear you can't hold your weed

Joined: November 2004 Posts: 4413 | I just realis4ed how cool/arrogant my post read. You gotta understand that me and my buddy were bottom of the bill and almost certainly playing for beer. There was a long period where we would do anything for beer. When we finally sobered up we fell out. He is now a professor of economics. On BBC last year there was a 1&1/2 hour documentary about RT and his new life in SCal - despite him being slightly higher than God in the folk world back home. If they get round to repeating it I promise you a DVD Jeff. cliff get hold of a copy of the first Fairport Convention album - listen to meet on the ledge and 1:- try and work out the chords and 2:- listen to one of the greatest guitar solos ever played anywhere at anytime. RT is the real deal - people have their favourites and people are impressed by volume/speed/whatever, but there are still only 2 or 3 better guitar players in the world. And believe me I've seen 'em all. Including all the jazz greats. Another RT story for Jeff:- After one of the gigs we were all sitting partaking of the Guinness (this was before he got into all that sufi shit) when a guy from the crowd walked up to him and said "I can't play that thing you did on ..(whatever the song was). RT looked him in the eye and said, "That's cos you don't practice enough you wanker. I don't do it by accident you know." (Wanker = jerkoff). How true.

By the by - I'm seriously considering a new O - got a quote from al and ran it past the boss tonight and didn't get laughed out of the house. It just occurred to me that 2 Os is an OO!

I contacted Frank Riley at High Road Touring, had the dates set, had the 25grand in the budget and thought everything was a go. Three weeks before the dates they canceled. I'm still not completely sure why. The reason they gave me was that his road manger wasn't able to make the dates. (I was looking forward to picking them up at the airport and in the course of conversation, saying something that might inspire him to call me a wanker.) I'd like to see that BBC documentary.
