It is still in its case acclimating in the music room. Can’t wait to get home tonight and introduce her to the family. Everyone gave you their perception of the 1537’s voice. Did it match the expectation you had?

I can't remember if I told you the strings are Phos-Bronze Martin Marquis. I usually play Elixir Nanoweb but was out of them (actually not out, but had used the "B" string out of my last set). Someone, here at OFC suggested playing near to and facing a wall to hear the reflected sound. Being behind the guitar, you can't "really" hear how great it sounds. Course, as Paul suggested, get a friend to play in front of you...if you can let go of her long enough.

I used to own a guild F45 CE that sounded great. The 1537 makes it sound like a uke, er, I mean makes the guild sound thin. You're gonna love it!

That guitar was big deep and loud. The 1537 has a big deep sound, but also, has a clearer better balanced mid and upper end. I it think has even more volume as well.

Joined: September 2004 Posts: 777 Location: East Wenatchee, WA | Just reading the responses to the 1537 purchases, and wanted to thank you guys for talking me out of selling mine a couple of months back. I went to Guitar Center and spent a half hour playing a variety of Taylors, Martins and Gibsons and in my opinion had to get well into the $2500 range before I got the action and sound that my 1537 has. Now for the bricks and flames....I needed a back-up so decided to try a Carvin Cobalt. It is NOT my Ovation, but it is every bit as credible as the Taylor and Martins in the under $1500 range. So now, with two Acoustic/Electrics, I am officially a guitar junkie...before I always sold one to buy another. But, I guess we all know who will remain the favorite. Oh...and by the way, you also were right about the electronics packages. All the fancy stuff still is not much if any better than the original Ovation set-up in the 1537. But after the recent point-out on ebay, it looks like I will be holding out for 4 figures......I actually almost did sell it for $400 as that is what they were going for on ebay in the last couple of years. What's changed by the way...$800-1000 or more in only a years time. Are they being discovered??????????

I'm seeing quality Ovations in general, going up in price on ebay. Solid bodies are going up in price. I paid, about 5 years ago, $250 for my Viper. They now regularly sell for $450. My Preacher 12 string was $600 a few years ago. If I sold it today (and I almost did), I would have been asking $1400 or more. I think there's a bit more awareness about them. The 1537's are a good case in point. When I came to this board, I was one of the few to own one. Now, 3000 are aware of them and a number of people own them and they are regarded (correctly) as one of the best wood topped Ovation ever built. It's good to see. Every once in a while I find myself on the right side of the curve.....
