Just saw in the paper that Loggins & Messina are touring together again. That might be worth seeing.

I originally saw them at the University of Houston back in '73 or '74 at the UC Center.

They were called pillow concerts, although I don't ever remember seeing anyone sit on pillows. Probably sat maybe 200+ people on the floor.

Saw a lot of great concerts there...Gentle Giant, Fanny, Heatherblack (later to become Christopher Cross) and many more that escape my memory at the moment.

I never saw Loggins and Messina, but Escondido, CA had a "theater" where the audience sat on pillows in the early 70's and my wife and I went there and saw "The Scruggs Family Experience", with Earl, Randy, Vassar Clements, and Scruggs great Dobro player Josh Graves, the model for every Dobro player since.

They mixed Bluegrass, jazz and a little bit of rock and were a true experience.

Chris Christofferson also appeared there as he had been booked when he was a "nobody" and had some BIG hits when he finally appeared.

The place lasted for a few months and then ran out of steam, ruined by not being able to follow up some early fantasticly successful bookings.

NOW IS THE TIME!!!

For Ovation to contact the Loggins & Messina management and make available an arsenal of Ovation various instruments for their reunion tour.

They were two of the most faithfull Ovation guitars endorsees back when they were first together.

So......................???

I say, at least contact them and make an effort.
They will start a 40 date tour soon on major venues, like large arenas and concert halls!

Talk about big time exposure from a big time act.

Too bad they're both deeply entrenched in the Taylor camp.

I agree with Sergio

There is an opportunity here that should be at least tried.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

They might like some of the great Ovations that are coming off the line if they liked them early on.

Kenny's been playing Taylors for the last Several years.I'm not sure what Jim's playing now. But I still remember The Live Lp's with Kenny playing a Countrty Artist and Jim playing a Steel String O(Probably a legend). Those were Great Days!! These guys will still be great to see in a live setting no matter what guitars they're playing. Though I have to admit that seeing them with Ovations would make it that much sweeter.

Jim's got a picture on his website and he's holding a Taylor.

When I saw them on tv yesterday, I couldn't get over how much older they looked (30 years older!). But boy, did they ever look like they were having fun.

I think of it another way: I think how YOUNG I looked when I used to listen to L&M in the early days. DW

VERY disturbing to tell some of my younger co-workers that Loggins and Messina are doing a 40 city tour this sumer and get a blank look in return. Who? they ask. "Kenny Loggins and Jim Messina" I say with the reply, "Oh ya Kenny Loggins, didn't he do Lawyers in Love".

"No, that was Al Stewart . . . "

Now there is a blast from the past. Played on the same bill several times in the late60s/early 70s, and even allowing for Jon Martyn, Richard Thompson and many others, that guy was a STONER. You could get high walking within 20 feet of him.

Always some great guitar players with him , tho . . .

Lives out in Calif. now, and is into collecting fine wines.

If you're into wine (and music), I highly recommend his "From thge Cellars" CD. Good Stuff.

I am seriously into wine (I wouldn't like to tell you how much I spent today on 3 cases) - I've got 3 bottles downstairs in the rack that would buy an Adamas. Not so sure about the music.....

He was always solo and dead broke when we were playing folk clubs, even though he was famous and actually had records out. I'd like to tell you he was a nice guy, but I never heard a coherent sentence out of him.

Never heard of the CD - these guys piss off to the sunshine and we never see them again (or maybe I just never notice). At least Clapton stays where it rains all year.

Guess it's all just a matter of personal taste(s).

Try as I may, I'm STILL havin' a hard time sitting all the way through a Richard Thompson CD . .

It's worth the effort - but RT does live in his own little world.

We all have our blind spots - mine's the Beatles and Led Zeppelin. I know this makes me the dummy of the universe, but Paul McCartney is the most overrated idiot in history. And Jimmy Page and Steve Vai are the most overrated guitar players in history (especially by themselves). Personal taste...

My wife and I saw Kenny Loggins in concert here in the Detroit area last summer and he played nothing but Taylors and Strats. I doubt he'd consider anything else at this point.

I saw a story about the Loggins and Messina reunion tour in USA Today last week. I guess they got back together for a tour due to Jim helping Kenny through a messy divorce over the last year. They have absolutely NO plans to make an album together, just a tour.

Kenny Loggins played in Utah, maybe at BYU and came running out on stage, drunk or stoned, slid across the stage, fell off the edge and broke his leg. End of concert. I was told this by a good Mormon boy who said all the other good Mormon boys were not impressed with Kenny.

Jeez, Loggins is going thru a divorce???? He and his wife wrote a book on their great marriage a few years ago. You just can't believe in anything anymore.

Whenever someone writes a book with that "I got it all" tone, look out.
A fall is a-comin'.

And another thing...Didn't Ovation custom make a solid body for one of them only to have it never picked up? Da heck with those guys!

The "Jim Messina" Deacon is now on display in the Miles K. Baron home for unclaimed instruments.
It, along with the Jim Rickard Deacon (Sam's) has been the inspiration for my wood veneer pickguards.

I went to JM's website and inquired twice about the guitar, no response yet!

I can appreciate the Messina Deacon, since L&M was my band of choice in the 70's. My playin' buddy and I played tons of their stuff. Also, there is no guitar any better looking than a Deacon.

Still, the Messina Deacon, imho, is a really ugly guitar.
