I am starting to notice that shallow (super shallow) bowl models are starting to vanish from the on-line retailers. Does this signal that the shallow bowl models are going away? Will the contour bowl be replacing what is currently offered? I realize that we will never know for sure what Ovation has in the pipeline, but it is fun to think about. Will there be shallow, mid and the current Deep Contour Bowl options?

If I remember correctly from the last tour Rick Hall mentioned the shallow would be used on imports and not USA models

In the U.S. there should only be mid depth, deep, and eventually, contoured. I would guess that the deep (which is pretty well gone now except for special orders and the AD model) will be totally gone in the next couple of years. I've said since I first saw it, that the contoured bowl is the bowl of the future. In 5 years, most O's will come with that bowl (IMNHO).

Paul, the 2005 Traditional Series are all deep bowls - Custom Legend, Legend, Elite, Balladeer.

I agree with your projection - Contour Bowl will soon be the standard. It wouldn't bother me one bit if ALL the other bowls disappeared. In my opinion the contour bowl is the best new development since the adamas top.

Dave:

Good point. Also, next year Ovation is talking about bringing back the original shiney bowl series (or at least some of them).

Al's Right. That's what I heard. Though I imagine if someone wanted to special order one they'd probably make it for you. I'm more interested in seeing the return of the deep bowls and playing the contuor bowl as well. For the most part I don't imagine you'll see many USA made Shallow bowls at dealers for very much longer.Once they are gone-they're gone!

It is possible that some dealers still have them on the wall. Best bet first chek ebay. There are some music Instrument dealers that have instruments there . They may still have some in stock. You can also double check places like music123.com, musiciansfriend.com, musiciansbuy.com. guitartrader.com,
or like Moody said just specialorder one.

The supershallow bowls will go the way of silicone implants. Nice while they lasted, but now only available as imports. Dave

(And I LOVE my shallow bowl)

Technically speaking the "Artist" bowl is the shallow bowl. Then along came the SUPER shallow bowl. The Artist pretty much disappeared and along came the MID depth bowl (very similar to the Artist). So naturally people started standardizing descriptions as "shallow", "mid" and "deep". So in this way of talking, shallow and supershallow are the same thing. Dave

I would prefer "just keep him away from THE plumbing".

Ya know Steve, I think I only get about 1/2 of the intended jokes so it does not seem too bad to me. Any joke having to do with plumbing, I do deserve. What I did to Temps toilet was just criminal. Dave

You'd have to go a lot further than what happened for it to be classified as criminal on this board.

Here's a thought; a contoured shallow bowl. From what I've heard the contour bowl really adds to the sound without sacrificing comfort, it only seems logical that a shallow contour bowl could make a shallow-bowl sound all that much better.

Believe ne, when Witko takes a dump the shape of the bowl is hardly relevant.

Glad they didn't have any models in the ads.

Jim,
I have a pretty cool little 12 string shallow bowel ovation I'm going to put up for sale later this month. If you’re interested, let me know.
It's a model 5858-ASW.
