I took it to my Luthier friend and the prognosis was bad, pitch problem from the neck to the body and a little twist. That is why the action was so high and according to him was probably not fixable. The good news is GC is going to get me a new one, should be in next week. This 2005 is going back to ovation. I don’t know if it's important as I have no idea what happens to Collectors Edition Guitars if they have problems, but the serial number was 412 so that might be one to watch out for.

The thing he said that caught my attention was that this kind of problem tends to get worse with age. If your not sure it might not hurt to have someone look at it just for your peace of mind. Yours might just need a little adjustment. Dan

All my previous instruments were pawn shop/garage sale specials. The guys at my local Guitar Center were great. The minute I had issues they were ready to get a new 2005 in ASAP, no questions asked. The interesting bit is how intricate a guitar really is, how close the tolerances have to be and how little room for error there is to get a really fine instrument. Remember were talking about 64ths if an inch. All this when working with wood, which sometimes has mind of its own. The problem with my 2005 was really very subtle I had to look long and hard to see it even after it was pointed out to me. The intonation at the 12th fret was just a little off if I wasn’t running scales I would have probably never noticed it until I tried to get the action lowered. Its almost amazing that anyone can make a good guitar. Can’t wait to get my new 2005, should be in next week Dan

Barkeepers Friend is an old item for cleaning rust off of metal gently also, used to use it on chrome bumpers on cars. Roger

The Elite is so sweet sounding and pretty, and I just didn't see that much difference in the quality. Desirable? Absolutely. Maybe I'll pick one up in a few years...

There was never an issue with the action.

I THOROUGHLY checked over the one I bought before dropping the money because of your post. And mine is awfully close to the one you had numerically (I have 388, I believe you had 412). Action might be a touch high, but I'm fine with it. The sound is soooooo good, I would never change anything. Roger
