I'd like to bid, but the guy selling reckons shipping from is anything from $199 (case only and secured with gaff tape!) up to $799 for DHL fully packaged. He reckons he's been losing money on overseas shipping on previous sales. Whadd'ya think - is he just a bit confused (he's got 100% feedback)? I dunno - anyone who'd ship a naked case..... I've sent him this email: _______________________________________________ Just read the note you posted on Ebay on 7th June. Dude, you are getting seriously ripped off on your shipping cost. I've had nearly a dozen guitars shipped US-UK over the years, including two this year. I have NEVER paid more $120 for shipping (USPS parcel airmail - takes 4-10 days). BTW - I'm not criticising you, I'm just letting you know....it's not fair on you to be taking a hit on the shipping cost every time you send a guitar overseas. Go to the USPS link I sent you earlier, and you'll never lose a possible sale to an overseas customer again! As it stands, I can't bid - guitar looks great, but shipping is way, way too expensive. Best Matt _______________________________________________

I just sent a guitar to Japan for about $225 and that was the most I have ever spent on shipping and I have shipped all over the world. Some people like to charge something for handling and paperwork and that's ok I guess, but $799?? Tell him to go pound sand and hang around here and one will turn up eventually. Wayne

We can then forward it on to you for the reasonable cost of whatever the true shipping rates are. Or you can look at my gallery and pick out a nice DEACON, VIPER III, VIPER, OR PREACHER and we can strike up a deal. :D

USPS may still take it, though. They don't rigorously enforce those rules. I will be interested in knowing how it goes for you, as I ship a lot of guitars to Australia and have had trouble getting that level of service there.

I shipped a guitar to Australia a month ago via USPS EMS that exceeded that limit, and the buyer had to go pick it up at the airport. It would be good to know whether that was an anomaly or routine, as EMS is the single best shipping value to just about everywhere one is likely to ship to.

Or you can look at my gallery and pick out a nice DEACON, VIPER III, VIPER, OR PREACHER and we can strike up a deal. :D I'm really after a black breadwinner - sold my white BW due to a little cashflow problem (I've just set up my own business) and I'm getting itchy again for a little BW action - really want a black one this time tho' (not fussed which pick-up / hardware) BTW my old one is being resold on ebay in the uk right now (it's the one posted on the 'for sale' forum). That's a sale I'm watchng with mixed feelings. ________________________________________________ Back on topic - I got a response from the guy, offering USPS, shipped in case only - I get the feeling that maybe he doesn't particularly care for guitars (or guitarists) in general... I'm not sure I trust the guy to ship across town, let alone transatlantic.

An FYI for those involved in shipping: packaging is usually not covered by insurance. If an instrument is shipped in the case with no carton, the case becomes the packaging and is not covered if it is damaged. This may be old news to the readers here, but is worth passing on. Hard plastic cases to not respond well to falling off of conveyor belts, etc.

Joined: March 2005 Posts: 37 Location: Bristol, UK | Thanks both. Jeff - if that's an offer, I'd be very grateful to accept. The BW's currently in Auburn, Washington - if I win the auction, I'll pay the seller the shipping to wherever you are (and any state tax if applicable). When (if!) you receive it, let me know the shipping cost and any additional packaging / handling it needs. Can I get payment to you via Paypal or Bidpay? (I'd obviously cover the paypal charges). Thanks. Just as an aside - I'm genuinely touched by folks willingness to help on this board - and if any of you guys ever need a guitar shipped over from the UK, please, give me a shout. What a great board.
