I have a lot of respect for accoustics and those who can play them. I learned on an accoustic for 2 years before I got my first electic. However I prefer playing electric. Of those other players who prefer electrics, how many have the Viper as your main weapon? Let's hear from you on what is your favorite electric solidbody (leave mention of the semi-hollow bodies for another time.) ------------------------------ 1979 Viper(original owner) 2004 Gibson ES335(original owner) Old Liver Jones

Each one is unique in sound and abilities. As I mentioned in another thread a while back..... Viper/Viper 3 - great Tele killer with more balls Deacon/BW - probably the best rhythm guitar available UK2 - heavy metal, alternative, rock, incredible sustain

I was looking for a similar 335 knockoff, but got the Ultra GS off ebay. It has twin humbuckers and I really like the sound, although I can't really play any electric guitar songs. I got a Behringer 65 watt amp with a bunch of effects and have enjoyed playing around with it. I'd like to get a Tornado and a Viper or Preacher, but I have to cool the purchases for awhile. There is another Ultra GS with a single coil pickup at a local pawn shop, though. I am waiting for them to come down into my ball park.

I had played a Danelectro that was a present for my Daughter, but it was a semi-hollow and got played more unplugged. Then I found the OFC and ran through Samova's, Standing O's and Mile's collections/Arsenals. When I saw the Jim Rickard and Jim Messina Deacons something inside me came alive and bloomed. The deacon shape was Da Bomb  The voices made me reassemble a 6 and a 12. The voices are getting louder again...

But I've got to say, for under $500. brand new I bought a Hamer SAQT and it's absolutely wonderful. Yeah it's made in china, blah, blah, blah but I'm telling you there is nothing in that price range that can touch it in my opinion. Dave

I recently played a scorchingly hot, super fine ESP Viper last week which costs over $3400.00 without case...I wasn't "torn" over it after I heard that news, just shell shocked for a while. Nobody has EVER had an Ovation Viper in any store here and it's not like you can get them to order one or any other guitar so you can see if you like it. I've never laid eyes on any of the Vipers and that's just a shame. A good while back I went to GC in New Orleans and was looking to test drive a Schecter Devil Tribal guitar. The guy said he didn't have one but would gladly order one "RIGHT NOW" if I'd pay for it IN FULL before I could even SEE it. So, I'd have to BUY it to TEST it. What if I didn't like it? What an iron azz...said Schecter only sent one and someone bought it. ONE. All of it was ridiculous and felt outlandish. Hopefully this kind of thing isn't too common...

I also have a Kramer Gorky Park, and a Schecter 12 string. Been wanting a Wayne Charvel Hydra, but haven't been able to justify the price. :D

Joined: July 2004 Posts: 812 Location: Hicksville, NY | I used to own a Fender Stratocaster that my dad gave to me as a birthday present in the early 80s. I was a sophomore in high school back then. Other than it's made in the U.S., and a gorgeous sunburst, there were things that made this guitar different from other strats -- to this day, I'm not sure if it's a good thing or a bad thing. Instead of the usual 1 volume and 2 tone controls on the pickguard, this guitar only had one of each. Also, while a typical strat has a jack plate on the lower left corner, this one had none. Instead the output jack substituted the spot where there should be a second tone control. Despite the slight change in the anatomy, it played like a dream. Unfortunately as years passed, I found out that electric guitars aren't my thing, so I gave it back to my dad for safekeeping. These days, I just play acoustic all the way. p.s. -- I never knew Ovations has electrics until I discovered the OFC :( . -- It took me nearly 17 years to own an Ovation, and it's definitely well worth the wait :)

Maybe when I'm a lot older I'll get an Ovation, but my D-18 is the love of my life...

They raised £125, which at £5 a car was quite a lot of washing. A boatload of goats is on its way to Africa as we speak. When I suggested she might like to do it at home once in a while she gave me a look she borrowed from her mother.

I've had my Viper about ten years and it still gets played a lot ... probably more than all the others. This past weekend I took my Strat with me to Carmel and played it a bunch through my Pandora, and I had a great time with it. I've had the Strat going on 20 years now. I picked up a Deacon 12 last year, and it has a lot of sounds you just can't get anywhere else. I bought my Hamer Mirage II five years ago, and it's just a joy to play ... think of it as a Les Paul killer. Mahogany body, carved maple flametop, Seymour Duncan humbuckers, and that great Hamer mojo. It doesn't get much better than this. Also in the arsenal is a Charvel Surfcaster (one of the real ones ;) ), an Epiphone FlameKat for those rockabilly moments, a Danelectro DC59, and a Ric 360V64/12. They're all different and they all bring a smile to my face. As a wise man once said, "it's all ice cream".
