Astonishing to think that it was intentionally timed to coincide with the G8 which, among other topics, is set to discuss African starvation. I know my God would never sanction that type of sensless barbarism

It's amazing - her sister worked in the building right next to the Trade Centre and was taking a long weekend at Cape Cod on 9/11. We're only a 25 minute train-ride from the centre of London here, so the sirens were going all day as police/paramedics were called in to help. It's like the IRA are back. When you consider that 4 of the bombs went off in deep, deep tunnels it's a miracle that the toll wasn't in the hundreds or worse. It obviously wasn't for lack of trying on Al Qaida's part. No doubt they are dancing in the streets somewhere again tonight. One of the comforts of faith is that I get to believe that those guys will burn in hell. Ex-Mayor Guiliani was in town and close to the first explosion - he spoke very well on radio, the right words at the right time. Very impressive I thought. Be careful out there.

I went out into the streets ... people walking, army trucks full of soldiers ... humvees zooming around, helicopters chopping overhead, low flying f-15s ... I went down to the waterfront just after the collapse of the WTC and saw smoldering smoke throwing debris and papers into the sky, raining down in Brooklyn ... you knew the smoke contained the burnt remains of people ... I rode my bicycle home and got my wife and we went back down underneath the Brooklyn Bridge ... I saw the refugees from manhattan shuffling across the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges, making their way to brooklyn ... boats came up to the waters edge and we helped people off the boats ... they were covered with soot ... there was no panic and everyone behaved with dignity ... other friends have other stories and some have no stories to tell because they are dead. You'd never think it would happen here. I feel for the people in London, it's so horrible.

The problem is, like 9/11, it's the business capital and every day thousands of people are in the city for maybe the only time in a year. We have a friend at church who lost a grandson on 9/11 who lived/worked in Washington and was at the Trade Centre for a meeting. It would be good if everybody checked in.

Your email to me came through twice, so maybe you have received mine. If not - thank you for the message.

From a BBC article: "The Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams, said he had joined with Muslim leaders in condemning the attacks during a visit to West Yorkshire. "Such solidarity and common purpose is vital for us all at this time of pain and sorrow and anger," said Dr Williams." Solidarity and common purpose sounds good to me.

Senseless deaths of men, women and, most of all, the children really get my dander up in a hurry. God speed to the innocents.
