Hi all! I'm new to the group, and I'm mostly a Telecaster player, and use an Ovation CS257 for my "plug and play" acoustic. I know that it's a lower budget Korean made Ovation, and these are not really dealt with much on this board. I really like mine, and it's been a workhorse over the years. I've not A/B compared it with the more expensive US made Ovies, but it seems to hold it's own against all the others that I've tried.

What I'd REALLY like is an Adamas. I'm very intrigued by the graphite top. I'm just wondering if the Adamas is really noticably better than what I already have. I wouldn't mind paying around $1000 for a nice used one, unless it's going to feel, sound, and play similar to what I've already got.

I guess I won't know until I try 'em both out side by side. Anyone care to fill me in on what I can expect?

The Adamas and the Celebs are very very different. Not only in sound, but also in build qualtiy. You get what you pay for.

Welcome to the board.

I have watched the abuse that one of the Youth's at church have given to a black CS257 over the last two years. It has been eft out in the sun and left all over the church. It still sounds and plays great.

Celebs are the underated of the underated.

I have a celebrity in my living room that has been dropped and slammed until the top is coming off the bowl and kicked so hard there is a 3" hole just under the bridge.
And guess what?

Yep...it's total trash.

Welcome tragocaster....I don't mean to confuse you. The above is an OFC inside joke.
You'll learn so much about the Adamas here that your wallet will hurt.

I had a Celebrity Deluxe for a short time this year. It really had a nice sound and the electronics were the same as a US built Ovation. You are not going to get a solid wood top on a Celebrity, much less a graphite. I don't own an Adamas, but I don't think you could even compare them. Almost as much difference between the Celebrity and an Adamas as between your Celebrity and your Tele.

I'm not so sure that the plugged in sound of a shallow body Adamas will be that much better than the CS257. If you like the sounds you're getting from the Celebrity, you may be dissapointed that the Adamas is not a dramatic improvement considering the price.

I think if you are happy with the way the Celebrity plays, but want better sound, your money would be more wisely spent on a good acoustic stomp box type processor.

It's like trying to compare a "Squire" Tele to an American Tele. There's a huge difference.

There's really no argument that any Adamas is a much better quality instrument than the CS257. However, you state that you're happy with the guitar but want to know if the Adamas is $1,000 better than the Celebrity.

Before you take the word of anyone here, go to a music store where you can A/B the two. You then can also try out the acoustic processor. I've been to a concert where the guitarist played a low-end CC057 Celebrity though a processor and quality PA system and the sound was great.

Everyone is different. For me, the difference between the Korean made models and the American made models is big. I'd buy a used American before a new Korean made in a second. However, I know people who have a Korean made model and love it.

Mitchrx brings up that key point asking if it is worth the difference in price. Better doesn't always translate into being better for the money. For instance, I played a 2005 collector. Liked it, but if it was better than my lx was it $400 better than my elite lx? NO, not for me. I picked up a collings one time and played it and thought beautiful, sweet guitar. Then, I looked at the $4500 price tag and started laughing. Was it really $2400 better than the sweet Martin I'd just played? NO Way, not even close... at least not for me. For someone else, he'd go a different way.

So, I took the scenic route to say... For me, the Adamas (I have played) and The American made Ovations (I have played and own) are worth the price increase over the Korean made laminated price models.

Since Waskel has already taken us off course I thought I'd put us on safari:

Barbecuing is the only type of cooking a real man will do. When a man
declares he will BBQ the following chain of events is put into motion:

1) The woman goes to the store and buys everything.

2) The woman makes the salad, vegetables, and dessert.

3) The woman prepares the meat for cooking, places it on a tray along
with the necessary cooking utensils and sauces, and takes it to the
man, who is lounging beside the grill, beer in hand.

4) The man places the meat on the grill.

5) The woman goes inside to organize the plates and cutlery.

6) The woman comes out to tell the man that the meat is burning. He
thanks her and asks if she will bring another beer while he deals
with the situation.

7) The man takes the meat off the grill and hands it to the woman.

8) The woman prepares the plates and brings them to the table.

9) After eating, the woman clears the table and does the dishes.

10) Everyone praises man and thanks him for his cooking efforts.

11) The man asks the woman how she enjoyed her night off. And, upon
seeing her annoyed reaction, concludes that there's just no pleasing
a woman.

To climb back on thread - unless you got your first guitar in the 60s/70s you have absolutely no idea how bad cheap guitars were. In those days real Gib/Fen/Martin guitars cost 10 times as much but played 1000 times better. The story since then has been one of an ever-closing gap. Ovation seem to have been particularly guilty in helping to bring this about. Better and better guitars available for less and less money - til we get to today and you have to spend 4 times as much to get something twice as good - and the higher you go the smaller the difference and the greater the price. Be grateful. You no longer have to spend a fortune to get a great guitar - so the answer is, yes they are better, but not by as much as you would think. ;)

Python tastes exactly like chicken. So does chicken.

Ever eaten snails or frogs legs my little backwood friends?

I thought his screen name was Yasmin Something....

I must be confusing him with "Jeff a thong at twilight".
