I have heard, more than a few times, that Ovation (the company or any associated with it) cannot/will not respond to topics raised in this forum. Is there a reason for this? I notice an Ovation representative that responds occasionally in Guitar Talk. While he doesn't specifically identify himself as a Kaman/Takamine/Ovation representative, I'm just a little curious why it's OK to play there and not here?

There is an Ovation employee that does respond here from time to time: He goes by CMS man. There may be others.
Alpep posted in a recent thread that Ovation does listen to the members comments here.
However, any employee would have to be careful about comments made as it might be interpreted as company policy, or as an agreement to implement some change.

It's probably a good policy.

The best way to be careful is abstinence!
Not always easy though.

The best method is to take a Factory employee to Dinner and then they can talk!

Kim Keller posts once in a while to tell Al he sucks.

If you have a hard fast question you can call or email Rick Hall.

Now that I said that Ovation cannot participate, I went looking for the quotes in question and cannot find a single one. Have I invented a rumor here? Maybe I'm making all this up. I don't have any hard fast questions. I just like to look.

Luthier444 turns up from time to time.

And that W2 guy - or did they fire him?

Remeber: the factory READS this board allot. I believe they would get in trouble at work if they said what they thought in the open. Except bill of course, he can say whatever he wants.

This board is a forum, for the fans of Ovation guitars. It would not be appropiate for the company to be a part of the board. Last year on the Taylor guitar forum, members were very critical of the company, when they introduced the new pre-amp and pick-up. The criticism got too strong and Taylor, would not allow the board to use the term Taylor Guitar, to represent the forum. They killed the web page, and came up with something more general. Without influence from the guitar company, fans can be more objective about the product, good or bad. We don't want a big brother on this board.

I think it's a good policy. It's also good that cms-man and luthier444 drop by from time-to-time so we can tell them how good their work is(note to company reps, remember this at performance review and raise time).

There should be an "Official" designated person who can speak the company line or answer the why is it/what are they doing that for, questions from time to time. This would be out of respect for the fans/customers here that read and participate.
There are times when this would be appropriate. However this designee should not be a regular contributor to maintain a degree of autonomy from and non-affiliation with the board.
(boy that was a mouthful of big lawyerly type words, I wonder how many I spelt wrong?)

cwk2's point is a good one.

At the Rickenbacker forum, CEO John Hall chimes in from time to time and at the Gretschpages, Mike Lewis (Fenders Gretsch VP) also posts with announcements of new models, new online brochure etc.

It's good to hear it from the horses mouth occasionally.

I suggest that thermostats for the air conditioning/Heater in the corporate offices be linked to a satisfaction meter on this website!

Watching W2's efforts in the DVD Jeff sent around gave me new found respect for his oratory and playing skills. I've gotta go now. I've exceeded my kissup quota for today.

Alert!

There is an imposter in our presence. It was painfully obvious to me once I read the diplomatic corporate totally logical legal-angle post.

I much prefer something along the lines of "Taylor...shucking flit...gas station...retired!...Travis Bean good...marketing...CLICK"

You can't be Lassie every day, I guess.

Bill,
If it makes you feel any better, Strunk and White's Manual on Style says you shouldn't start a sentence with "However." Otherwise, your grammar was suspiciously lawyerlike. Most lawyers don't write well, either.

W2's response mirrors precisely the impression I got over on another-acoutstic-guitar-oriented forum. Over on Guitar Talk, Mike Markure periodically chimes in with authoritative Tak information. He provides exactly that sense of connection to the home office. On the flip side (sorry Woody), there generally is not a lot of selling to be done around here. We're all pretty much Ovation fans to begin with. But I would agree with W2's idea of appropriateness. I do believe that the mothership does read this forum, it's just that we required to believe that on faith rather than receiving the occasional home team hug.

Thanks to all who posted in this thread, many brought up aspects I never would have considered.

Would an invite to Rick or Frank to make a Monthly "Visit" be appropriate?

Even JK Rowling answers some of the rumours from time to time!

It's always nice to hear what Kim really thinks of Al.

Personally I think it's nice that nobody from Ovation officially comments here. It's more fun to just spread speculation and rumors. Dave
