Saturday night I was pleased (and pleasantly surprised) to see that Pat Metheny was going to be on Austin City Limits (okay - I'm old; they get some pretty wei-- I mean, diverse, acts on there sometimes...).

Anyway, behind keyboardist Lyle Mays I would occasionally get a glimpse of an Ovation (slothead) headstock.

Kept waiting for Metheny to pick it up, when finally, in the last song, Lyle Mays played it for part of the intro to the song, then switched back over to keyboards! I thought it was a nylon string, but could never quite tell from the shots I saw of him playing it...

...anyone else ID it?

Into the nineties before he found Linda Manzer, Pat regularly played an Ovation classical on stage. Maybe he doesn't trust Lyle with one of his $20,000 customs!

Didn't see the programme - reception's lousy 7ooo miles away. :(

Actually it's probably nearer 5000 miles. But the reception's no better.

There are less than 5 times as many Americans as Brits, but you manage to have over 30 times the fatalities on your roads.

Possibly you need to join us on the right side of the road. Which is the left. :p

People here drive more miles per individual than anywhere else in the world.

Only 5x as many americans as brits, but probably 30x the number of automobiles and miles driven per person.

The statistics from the most recent figures available, 2001, show that the USA had 14.8 people killed in road accidents for every 100,000 members of the population. Britain had a rate of 6.1 deaths. A more telling statistic -- “deaths per 100 million miles traveled” – is 1.51 in the USA vs. 1.2 in Britain – a mere 25% variation.

Even as I typed it I just knew someone would look up the real figure.....

25%, 3000% - I take the Dubya approach to figures.....

wow, you *must* be old. I haven't heard that name in decades. (Yeah, I must be old, too, if I'm referring to the Rene Richards who was in the news in the '60s. ;-)

Thanks for calling attention to the little weekly hootenanny we throw here...

p.s. Do I need a blues name to post here? If so, just call me:

Ma'am,

If you do a search of the archive for "your blues name" or something similar, you will be taken to the official, authorized, genuine blues name generator. Here is where you can get your true blues name.

MGJ works for me as well.

EDIT: for your convenience you can find it here

Hey Moanin' Girl:

Glad to have somebody from Austin on the board. Great town! I went to college there centuries ago. Are you old enough to remember the Armadillo World Headquarters?

Thank you, Skinny 'arp, for the official blues naming. How appropriate that my name would be Texas Fingers Franklin (although I go by Muddy). With this carpal tunnel mess, I should be Moanin' Fingers.

And yes, Sleepy Bones, I am old enough to remember the Armadillo. Was in high school in San Antonio during its heyday, so I only went there once, to see Tracy Nelson. At one point, she mentioned that she and Willie Nelson were often asked whether they were related. Willie's reply: "Yes, we're the bastard children of Ozzie and Harriet." heeheehee ... oh, wait, I forgot who I am ... ohhh, oww, uhhuh,y'know.

I can't/won't believe it's nigh on 40 years since Renee Richards was in the news. I'm thinking lady tennis player who wasn't. Or am I, as always, totally confused?
