I was OH so hoping that it woulda' started snowing THEN so that I could just call-in this morning & say ". . the roads are "treacherous" . . I'm not coming in . ." But, No. I wake up to "nothing". I drag my sorry ass outta' bed & into the office. At 10:30, it starts t'snow, and EVERYONE is standing by the front door freaking-out & having t'rush home like rats from a sinking ship . . . By the time I finally left, the roads're filled w/asswipe NONdrivers either crawling at 3mph(w/flashers ablaze) or fishtailing around all over the place. Least I got t'have a nice phone chat w/Uncah Beal while I was " . . counting the cars on the NJ Turnpike . ." Good thing I had some shrimps t'munch on while sitting in traffic. "Spring" better come on January 2nd, or I'm gonna' be pissed . . .

We got enough for the ski areas to open, but not enough to have any on the roads down here. Perfect. I'll go home, build a fire, play some guitar, listen to Christmas music and wait for the kids to arrive. Oh, and get AJ paid back. Sorry AJ. I can't seem to think about you when it's snowing outside.

Temps around 16 below with a winchill between 30 and 50 below. At least we aren't getting the blizzard that they are predicting for eastern South Dakota.

I'm sorry, everyone; it only does this the winters that I get a new car......blame the arrival of the new Subie, I guess. My commute wasn't quite as aggrevating as Cliff's, but it took me an hour and 10 minutes to go about 20 miles. I am so glad I don't have to work tomorrow; shovelled a bunch of snow and intend to sleep in (of course, when you get up at 5:30 every day, sleeping in might mean 5:45...) --Karen

It's about 6 right now, although it really didn't feel that cold. Supposed to get some more snow this weekend. Hasn't snowed this much in many many years. The storm they had a couple of years ago was the biggest since '89. So this one is a serious record breaker. Kinda nice to look at and play in tho... I really like living in a place where winter (with snow) is about a week long... it may be two weeks this year. Then it's back to Sunny and brisk... just love it.... oh wait.. that's rainy and grey... yeah... it always rains here, I forgot for a moment.

So I'm OK with that. BUT, they don't use sand either! They don't even plow unless we get more than four inches. It's the same all over the Hills. They say they are trying to save taxpayer dollars. (BULL!!) When you get to an intersection, you can't stop. When you have to go up a hill, more often than not, you go up sideways. Doesn't matter if it's snow or ice. They don't do ANYTHING except tell people to stay off the roads. I bought chains for my tires. I'd rather my taxes go up than to die on icy roads, and I'd rather tear up the roadway with chains or studded tires than to slam into someone at the next intersection. It's the only thing I hate about living here, and I'm so angry every winter that I swear I will OWN this town if I get in an accident. We pay taxes and get NO services. It all goes toward the mayor's pet projects, like the HUGE, multi-million dollar library they built out of logs, (high upkeep), with giant fireplace, coffee station, and so much empty space they have actually put on concerts there. And now it turns out that the contractor cut corners and this two year old building needs a new roof already!! AARRGH!!! OK, thanks for letting me vent. I'll go play some banjo and calm down now.

Just don't give away the secret handshake brother! The house-side thermometer says 24 F with a low last night of 23 and it's fine with me except for something I'll relate in another post.
