I'm thinking of getting a black balladeeer LX, or possibly a legend LX (if I gcan get one without the gaudy gold tuners!).

Is the LX series really better or worse than a regular series Ovation.

LX??? Oh yes!
Whole new neck system
Scalloped braces
New bowl material (33% lighter, more acousticly active)

Hey...Huber-Breese will start their open mic season on Sept. 2nd. It's a lot of fun. Can you make it?

That was my next question, the pre amp. I really only use the tuner cause I don't plug in too much. I didn't lke the tuner that on the LX when I tried it in the store. I like the one on my S771, op 30 (i think that's what you call it). I'm going to try to get to GC today and check out the LX Balladeer they have and maybe throw it on my GC card. All my life I've NEVER baught on credit (barring a house or car), and here I am with my GAS trying to grab every Ovation my credit will allow.

I actually didn't like the tuner on the OPPro when I first got it. But after using it for a few months, I find it a lot easier to use and tuning has become faster for me than with the op40's on my Legends.

Add the XLR to the OPPro, and wow. This thing just lights up when I plug it in.

With the tuners I think it's just a matter of getting familiar with it.
Waskel....Good morning. How early do you get up out there on the left coast? You have been posting for hours already!

I went to the GC in Arlington Hts. this past weekend to check out the 2005. I actually liked the LX'x better than the 2005. Both the Balladeer and the Legend seemded to have a fuller sound and the neck was easier for me to play. Had my mind set on a 2005 but I I think I'll stick with an LX.

Slipkid, as far as playing in front of people in a guitar store just trying out guitars, I'm cool with that, I kind of like having people around when I do that, but as far as sitting on a stage, I don't thing I'm good enough for that and I tend to make too many mistakes, esp when someone's watching.

I will definetly try to make it up there if I'm off work to watch others play. I like watching and hearing people play acoustic guitar.

Unplugged...You don't have to get up and play. Show up anyway and you can try Brian's 2005CL and my AD-II.

Paul, I get up at 4 because it gives me time to soak in the hot tub, drink some coffee and wake up to make the 40 mile drive to work by 6:30.

Oh, and play my guitar. (quietwy)

Eeewww. Just found this on ebay. Somebody bought a pickguard signed by Reba and stuck it on a Balladeer. Doesn't fit the rosette, looks out of place and totally detracts from the guitars' natural beauty.

There oughta be a law...

Some guy on eBay named Al is trying to offload a set of Schaller Pearloid knobs (to replace the gold ones) but he doesn't support the Paypal Regime! Talk about a lousy Salesman.

I too preferred the LX over the 05 as Willard mentioned. Just a preference. I really want to try an LX 12 string soon.

Uh.....the 05 basically IS an LX, isn't it???? I would think that the main difference is the bowl depth and configuration.

At the risk of sounding alittle pretentious (Who?...Me?...Pretentious?...nahhh), I think the ES top makes this guitar sound pretty unique. Might just be my 05 but I find the sound significantly different that the O's I tried out at GC. Personally I think the glass bowl on my 1111 makes an amazing difference. More than any single thing I found playing various other O's(other than perhaps a carbon top).

Before I bought my 05 I played it several times over the course of about a month comparing it to a 1777lx. The first time I played both I thought the 05 sounded kind of muffled, not as bright and full. This was within days of it coming from the factory. I really preferred it's appearance and the way it felt but thought the sound was better on the 1777. The next time I thought they sounded close but couldn't pull the trigger for the extra money. The final time I played them both the 05 had been there about a month and there was no comparison. The 05 was brighter, fuller, more bass. I suppose it's possible it was all my imagination since I really wanted the 05, but it seemed to change as it sat in the shop.

From her copy:

"There are no flaws underneath the pick guard on the guitar, just the small surface scratches that we told you about."

IOW, "Ignore that little man behind that curtain over there..."

That's hideous - she can't possibly think that it looks "great."

(Instant Graemlin puking...)

Geez. I wish I would have known this before I attached my Slim Whitman autographed pickguard to my Custom Legend. Oh well, live and learn.

Mike,
Good point about the age thing. The '05 I played had only been hanging for less than a week. I won't be able to get back to Chicago but I should be able to get to Milwaukee and see what they have for aged '05's.
