Yesterday, when picking up my mail, a guitar box from Ovation was presented to me. Contained an almost flawless 1987 Collectors. Now you all know that this guitar has been on my short list for a long long time. One popped up on ebay last month and was purchased by a sneaky fool from this board who owns and operates an ark (but I won't mention any names). Seems that he and somebody else from this board (who lives in San Diego and is well known for his love of original Admaii and Custom Legend 30th Anniversary guitars -- but again, I won't mention any names), decided that this guitar needed to be in the hands of somebody who would truly appreciate it (enter a tall handsome fellow who doesn't just play a private investigator on t.v., and who only knows 3 chords but is always on the lookout for the 4th chord). So they bought it, shipped it to more sneaky people at the mothership (who's name won't be released but his initials are J.B. and when you meet him just a couple of times, you feel like you've known him 30 years) who fixed some minor problems, but then decided that the neck of the guitar would be better served by being replaced, and came up with a replacement neck. This guitar was then shipped to that certain p.i. who only stood there with his mouth open catching flys, for I'd say a maximum of 20 minutes. A letter was enclosed from the C*lm*an / Chr*st*es*n Guitar Adoption Agency (please note that I have cleverly blanked out parts of the names so that their identities will be kept secret) was enclosed asking if the guitar could stay with me for a while and then, down the road we could make it permenant if all were happy with the new home. Well, suffice to say ("suffice it to say" is gramatically incorrect but everybody uses it -- I know this because "suffice" was one of my 9th grade student dictionary words, and some things stay with you forever), this guitar will stay here and the debt will be paid (very very happily) before it's expected with two benefits. First, my wife isn't complaining about me just buying another guitar and spending a lot of money. Thru the kindness of strangers, she can't say no to this one (YES!!!), and two by being able to pay for it over a few months, it becomes much more affordable to my pocket book, while still putting money away for the OFC'er. All I can say is thank you. Last June, the people who were interviewed for the Ovation dvd while in CT, all compared notes as to their answer on one particular question "why did you come to the OFC gathering in CT"? All of us answered with the same answer, "Because of the people". We argue politics, we tell dirty jokes, we climb all over people we see as being mean or unfair, but this is a great group of people. I've been on both sides of the kindness thing, giving and receiving. It's a wonderful thing. Thanks guys.

Do you know what it's like talking on the phone to someone with wet pants? I could not have been happier for him.

I offered to sign the lable but they said, NO!, that it was owned by an important person and going to somebody else as a big suprise and they wouldn't dare chance lowering the value that much.

A beautiful gesture on the part of the C*lm*an / Chr*st*es*n Guitar Adoption Agency. FYI, if anyone else is feeling altruistic out there, I really do miss the Deluxe Balladeer I "sacrificed" in order to convert a non-believer in Ovations to a believer... ;) Congratulations, Paul, and nice job "mystery friends." Even though I have never met either one personally, I have spent many enjoyable hours talking to both of them! PAUL....make sure you bring it to the Southwest OFC gathering at Dave's place this fall. I look forward to meeting you, Dave, the agency and any other friends that Dave will allow into his adobe!
