Location: NJ | There is a tenative date of Friday September 30th for a gathering of all original Adamas slothead owners at the factory in New Hartford, CT.
Rick Hall and I have brainstormed many ideas to make this event speacial. The slothead Adamas guitar is the "holy grail" of the company and with the 30th anniversary a gathering of owners of the original instruments is a must.
Some of the ideas thrown about were photographing all guitars, and the group of owners. A special dinner event, plaques and other commerative items, an invitation to the namm show and the anniversary party. etc.
Bill Kaman will give a special Q and A session about the instruments and all owners will have a chance to talk about their instrument, how they obtained it etc.
Please e me at alpep@aol.com if you are interested in attending. I know that this is a small select group of owners but this event is a once in a lifetime opportunity.

As you may know, starting in the fall of 1976, twenty-six prototype Adamas guitars were released to select artists and dealers. These first 34 guitars are very unique and sought-after instruments that forever changed the Acoustic guitar world.
My question is how many 26 or 34? |

Location: NJ | I believe Samova's got a couple lyin' around that he uses to dry towels on . . . .
Bill uses one to prop open the cellar door . . . .
The few that I've seen pics of were pretty raw . . . shitty (if any) paint . . . hand-cut access doors taped in place so that you go can back in and shave the errant brace . . . Sam'd know . . . |

Location: Phoenix AZ | I think someone (Sam or Bill maybe) once commented that the 26 protos were not all full guitars. Maybe 26 soundboards. Some had necks, some had bowls, some had god knows what kind of frankenstein parts attached to them. I think none of them actually had slotted headstocks. The only real "slotheads" were the 34 pre-production ones + whatever kinds of Dadi conversions and Adamas II wanna-be makeovers that jealous owners of non-slotheads attempted. Dave |

Of the first 26 some were guitars, Sam has a few of these and some were never built into guitars. They were all real rough, canine variety. It's the first 34 that are the good players. |
