Location: Phoenix AZ | The OFC case probably costs half of what your guitar cost you. I have not heard of hiscox. In amsterdam they had some hercox, but that was something else entirely.

Location: Capital District, NY, USA Minor Outlying Islands | Not that there's anything wrong with Hiscox or a custom adamas case (I've never seen a custom adamas case, knowingly), but you might like a Carlton case.
For a gigbag, tribal planet.
In terms of traveling in the car or on a bike (with a back-axe), there's nothing wrong with the standard deluxe ovation cases. |

Location: Scotland | Jason, I got your email, don't even think about importing a Hiscox from the UK. International shipping works on volumetric weight not actual weight. (Volumetric shipping is calculated by size, based on the amount of hold space it takes up, not actual shipping weight) It will cost at least $200 to get a Hiscox to the US. Potentially I could bring one over in May, but givem the limited car space you may have to have it shipped brom NJ to you.
And I agree with Rick, unless you are gigging extensively, or you live in Bahgdad, the Standard Ovation cases are fine.
Rick, It's Calton, not Carlton. They were designed by Keith Calton in Aldershot, England and are made under license in Canada for the US/Canadian markets. Calton are about the best there is, 99.9% airline-proof. Jason, you'd be better off looking for a used Calton Jumbo case and having it re-padded at the Canadian factory for your Adamas. |

....Hiscox cases are well known in OZ, I think the price of a Std. case is about 25 % more than an SKB.
The bowl back case is part of the deluxe range. Mine looks exactly like the pic JC83 posted, but has a blue 1687 inside.
Those Calton cases must be special, look at the prices !

Location: Scotland | That’s the kind of money you can expect to pay for an airline-proof case.
Calton don’t do a specifc roundback case. They make 2 or 3 sizes of basic shell and which are custom padded from stock templates or you can send them a template of your guitar. I’ve had a few Caltons and they are superb. Only downside is they weigh a ton. No pain no gain. |

Location: Phoenix AZ | By the way here's a site that sells all the high end cases. Great selection. You browze around here for a little while and you realize that spending $300-$500 on a case is pretty easy to do (except the actual "paying" part).
FINE CASES
I've always had my eye on Ameritage cases. They just look so classy and super high quality. But, again $250 for just a ukulele case. Guitar cases closer to four skins.
AMERITAGE CASES
Sorry to (again) be a Martin pimp, but the GIEB cases you get on the better M's are REALLY NICE. Same as the Ovation case on the 97 Collectors. I have no problem with the standard Ovation TKL case on most of their stuff. It does a fine job. But on the higher end stuff you really should get better. Half the pleasure of playing my M's is just getting them out of the case. Just beautiful. Glad that Al stepped up to the plate in the OFC Guitar. THAT guitar deserves a very deluxe case, that fortunately that's what it'll have!

Location: Scotland | Dave, I just don't understand the case thing. I have no emotional attachment to instrument cases whatsoever. To me they are just a means of storage, transportation and protection and as long as they do those jobs well enough I don't give them a second thought, regardless of the guitar inside them. As for Ameritage they are superb, but a couple of weeks on the road and they'll look like crap. Ameritage have always struck me as cases for guitars that rarely leave the house, which is OK, but kinda seems a little pointless. |

Location: NJ | When I was babysitting Bill's 1932 TriCone last Winter, it was in an Ameritage. A VERY nice case, indeed! First time I ever saw one and was QUITE impressed with it. (Jeanette even mentioned that even though she doesn't take note of guitar cases, THIS one really impressed her). Conversely, Bill's other guitar (a 1928 StyleO) came in it's ORIGINAL case that had wood poking through the seams of the covering and a leather strap for a handle that I just didn't "trust" and carried the case under my arm like a violin. Two opposite ends of the spectrum, but equally cool.
I'm with Temp. A gorgeous case is quite nice, but I'll take Form/Functionality any day. All of my guitars (even the SlotHead) have their original cases and go in/out of my car (and bars), piled/bungeed-down on top of other gear (in varying weather/climate) about 16 times a month. They get scraped/nicked-up pretty quick.
The Ovation cases hold up amazingly well . . . .
(That being said, I still wouldn't "mind" having one of the OFC/carbon-fibre cases for my SlotHead when we go out to "dress-up" functions . . . ;-) |

Unlike you (and most others), I am not really a musician. I don't gig, tour or even pretend to. My kids have left, I have an empty nest, a very understanding wife, a mid life crisis that's lasted for the past 10 years and a little bit of play money in my pocket. To the extent that I can, I enjoy surrounding myself with nice "things". No, I don't wear a silk smoking jacket and all that shit. But your description of Ameritage is dead on - an beautiful, yet overpriced and pointless case for guitars that never leave the house.
Doesn't that sound like just the kind of thing that I'd want to own ???

Location: big island | those ameritages are excellent cases but, if i owned one, i would feel almost as bad if it got dinged up as i would the guitar. yikes!
OT: i was checking out the mcpherson guitars and noticed they come with ameritage cases. i requested a catalog from mcpherson and had it here three days later. they included a wonderful CD, "Sunset Drive" that contains 13 full-length songs recorded with their guitars. those songs are also on their website. great music and superb marketing. |
