ALL Wars should be fought this way:

ZURICH, Switzerland - What began as a routine training exercise almost ended in an embarrassing diplomatic incident after a company of Swiss soldiers got lost at night and marched into neighboring Liechtenstein.

According to Swiss daily Blick, the 170 infantry soldiers wandered just over a mile across an unmarked border into the tiny principality early Thursday before realizing their mistake and turning back.

A spokesman for the Swiss army confirmed the story but said that there were unlikely to be any serious repercussions for the mistaken invasion.

"We've spoken to the authorities in Liechtenstein and it's not a problem," Daniel Reist told The Associated Press.

Officials in Liechtenstein also played down the incident.

Interior ministry spokesman Markus Amman said nobody in Liechtenstein had even noticed the soldiers, who were carrying assault rifles but no ammunition. "It's not like they stormed over here with attack helicopters or something," he said.

Liechtenstein, which has about 34,000 inhabitants and is slightly smaller than Washington DC, doesn't have an army.

Kind of reminds me of what I've heard about the Canadian Armed Forces. They are really friendly. In fact, during maneuvers and reserve training excercises they even take turns carrying the gun.

I went to school with a guy that had been in a German tank crew. Apparently a lot changed after WW2. He said the tanks had Porsche power trains and they'd take them out and race them or jump them. The crew members all had handles sewn into their shirts so they could be pulled out of the tanks. They used to take the guys, especially if they were hungover, and hang them from the cannon and spin the turret around until they got sick. Sounded like it was even more fun than the Swiss army.

We went thru that during the Guilani adminstration. He armed the police to teeth and attacked at night. He thru out the squats and made way for real estate developers. God save us if he becomes president.

The squats will lose. The police have the guns. Real estate developers will tear down the squats and build overpriced multi story condos with retail space on the ground floor. If only the police knew they were making cophagen safe for starbucks.

Yes we do. They lent it to our armory so the cadets could see what it looked like.
Prime Minister Harper has promised to buy at least two more like it. If the Yanks can spare them...and will take his credit card.

Hi Vic,
Hope things settle down soon. It's really sad how little news we really get in the USA, and even more sad that most people in the USA do not realize how little news we really don't get.
I don't think it's political, and this thread will not go that way, but it does have to do with money and time. I think it would be really cool if there was a news station, somewhere, that was 24/7, truly world news. There seems to be this trend to repeat all the headlines with an hour. Well that's the problem. Even without commercials and or on-seen reports, a reported reading headlines could probably read headlines of hours on end without repeating. Then 1/2 the day is taken up with the talking heads too.
I for one am very frustrated with the Entertainment that is disguised as news. I hate to say this, but although Al Jazeera seems to have their own agenda at times, at least the events of the world are presented so one can see "something" is going on "someplace" and maybe use other sources to research. I just went "WORLD" sections of CNN which had 12 headlines of which about 1/2 were entertainment news. MSNBC had 35 headlines of which most were real news, and then Al Jazeera has around 35 REAL NEWS headlines, no fluff.
The only thing I could find on Denmark was a broken link to EuroNews. Google had the headline link to Euronews, but the link was dead. Props go to one of my favorites... SkyNews who did not have a current headline on the story, but did have one from a couple of days ago.
Finally, the Drudge Report. A seeming plethora of almost too much info.... nothing on the current Denmark story.

My point... it shouldn't be this hard to find news of the world around us.

Hmmm an idea for a thread....

Mr. Ovation quote- "It's really sad how little news we really get in the USA, and even more sad that most people in the USA do not realize how little news we really don't get."

A few years ago, I caught a glimpse of the news Telemundo or Univision in espanol... Top Story; The President of Columbia(?) had been assassinated!
Came home, and this was on NONE of the over-the-air network nightly news. It was the President of a nation, in our hemisphere, that is supposed to be one of our allies... No mention.
USA News is not 'news'... It is entertainment.

Just something to think about...

Check out the BBC World News which is broadcast on most public TV stations (PBS). They actually present the news as if the US was not the center of the universe. They also sometimes have those hot babe broadcasters with cool British accents. It's very different from CNN or the major networks.

It's called Info-tainment, and it's all the rage here too. The modern version of 'Bread and Circuses.'

Brian T-- I listen to BBC News on NPR every night as I go to sleep. That's were they actually tell you WHY the whole world hates the US. Or at least they find it hard to believe that we have fallen so far. But they have faith that we'll come to our senses. Around 2009.

Willard-- I just bought Good Night and Good Luck, I hope to watch it sometime in my "free" time.
