(sorry... inside joke for GWB)
.
Ask the bands that play Detroit.
Our past has a reputation of hard working blue collars who like to let loose. Our future?? Who knows.

City #2.... Cleveland?

I've found each place has it's own distinctive flavor:Brooklyn, NY, most challenging; West coast of florida, from sarsota to tampa, the most relaxed; singapore, the dopiest, all imported from the Philippines, but the go-go dancers were entertaining.

Seems like it shifts...Minneapolis had its run, so did Seattle. Los Angeles will always have its stuff. In the last few years, Omaha (thanks to Connor Oberst and the whole Saddle Creek records indie thing) has made something of a mark.

I think the message is that good stuff comes up everywhere. These days, all the cities look the same anyway.

Cleavland has the R&R hall of fame, because of Alan Freed, and charity. I don't think I've ever heard of such a thing in music, as "the cleavland sound". Not many cities have the amount of venues for playing live music as Austin Tx. They also host the SXSW gathering each year. Austin gets my vote.

Dubai? Oil, not rock & roll. I think I could be objective on this, as Austin actually has more live music venues than cities 3 times its size. Los Angeles is a big recording center, and competes. San Francisco? I think we're talking about the present tense here.

I realize the questions was restricted to ROCK N ROLL. But if you open it up to ALL MUSIC, then there is no competition to NEW YORK CITY. Dave
