I seem to have fallen in love with something while on vacation at amilia island that could risk my well being. I need your advice how to proceed on something that I do not need and can not afford... but want very much. Telling you what it is would bias your advice. Just assume it's really nice, sort of rare, and sound like a dream.

Or, did Bill just lock you in his basement for a day and you found a prototype?

May I offer some options?

C) Bring your Wife with you and visit FL more often. Almost like visitation.

D) Figure out what makes this thing tick and sink a whole bunch of OPM into a company that makes them. Don't build them overseas cause then you'd have to call them Foriegn Nationals or Innerd Nationals.

E) Sell everything you have and have just this one guitar.

Hey Dave...
I went with the "Don't buy it" button. But it was close, buddy.
It would be easy to go with the "Life's to short" defense but what swung me was the "really can't afford it" statement.
And although I only know you as well as this board and a couple wild weekends allow, my guess is that your marriage is stronger than any one guitar.
And besides....It's not healthy if you can't learn to say "no" to yourself once in a while.

But please... when this poll has done it's job, let us know what tempted you.

It's a dead heat... go for it - I'm with gh1. If you really want it to happen, you'll find a way to make it happen that satisfies all parties.

Dave talking about yourself is not healthy. Just a reminder,I work at a psychiatric facility and IT also never closes .. So if you buy the item you desire, you cannot be blamed for doing it. You can claim some state of temporary mental defect and everything will be fine.

I also went with the "Don't buy it" button. I'm one of those "Do as I say" rather than "Do as I do" guys. I'm a real lousy behavior modeler.

...guitar, I'm sure you were talking about a guitar...

I went with No, I'm afraid Dave. Purely because, if you have to ask then you're looking to be persuaded. Rather than simply "I'm SO buying that guitar".

Hope all you cats are kittens are having a great weekend.

Dave,

I'm in the buy it camp. I believe it's an opportunity for you.

You'll get a guitar that you will cherish, and you can pass along some guitars which you don't play that much to people who, for them, will enjoy and cherish. In some sense we are just custodians of the guitars we own.

Guitars were meant to played after all. Thin your collection.

Do it and dont' look back!

"... pass along guitars you don't play that much..."

Could you just "pass along" your 47 of 47 to me?

Dave, it's your money and your marriage.

That being said, I seem to remember at least 2 or 3 "I've just gotta have it" guitars that you bought, only to turn around and sell at a later date.
Spontaneous impulses are great (I know I've paid for my share) but if you need this kind of persuasion, perhaps you ought to think rationally about it for a while, and you'll see you really don't need it and really can't afford it.

After which (of course) you'll buy it anyway.

Well, by "pass" along, I meant sell on ebay. I'd put on a low reserve, and just let 'em go. But that's me.

I figured if she stayed with you this long, she's not going to leave over guitar number 257. It may cost you another Mercedes, though.

I went with the "Don't be stupid" option.

Tough choice though.

If it's Ryan Cathedral or Nightingale... Buy it. If not... then don't do it.
