I would also add Flogging Molly at the HOB in Atlantic City but that was more a case of my proximity to the loudspeakers.

Gods among men with the most loyal fans ever. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BFuIc2sRFxs Quote from Wikipedia: "The heavy metal band Manowar is one claimaint of the title of "loudest band in the world", citing a measurement of 129.5 decibels in 1994 in Hanover. The Guiness Book of World Records once listed it as the record holder for the loudest musical performance for an earlier performance in 1984. However, Guinness does not recognize Manowar's later claim, because it no longer includes a category of loudest band, reportedly because it does not want to encourage ear damage."

European (400 wtts. American) with 8 x KT 66 in the output stage if I remember well ;) Vic

A mild-mannered, straitlaced guy from my dorm had tickets. It turned out that he just had to stand in the front, right next to the PA speakers, and rock out. After a while I couldn't take it and had to to move to the back. Fun show though! Jeff Beck. I went with my jazz-fusion buddies to see a double bill of the second Mahavishnu Orchestra and Beck. I think it was at the Shrine in LA. Mahavishnu was just short of being too loud; Beck was unbearable. After two or three numbers we left. -Steve W.

Most people have too much. You'll want about 90db at the back of the room. (hearing loss starts at 90db) For example, at 4 meters (a typical backroom of a coffee house) a 10W amp will work. Use this calculator to figure out how many watt\'s you\'ll need. That said, the biggest array of speakers I've seen was the Grateful Dead's, but the sound was clear.

So loud is this band that the audience usually listens from the safe distance of thirty seven miles away in a well-built concrete bunker, while the band plays "virtual instruments" from an orbiting space craft. Disaster Area's lavish performances often cause major seismic catastrophes and permanent planetary damage. They go so far as to crash a space ship into the nearest sun to create a solar flare for the grand finale. At the time when the story's main characters meet him, in The Restaurant at the End of the Universe, the lead singer Hotblack Desatio has been sentenced to spending a year dead "for tax reasons", though he is still psychically alive....

Soo...if we have to get technical .. Nah,that would fall outside the scope of this board, but the statement of 90 db at the back ( at 1 Khz.?? ) being enough is odd,to say the least ! (that would be very little ) even GWB`s congregation who are toting stethoscopes to his sunday gig would tell him to buy a decent amp... but to keep things simple, when you look at the back of headphone wrappings, you will see that most phones will go up to 105 db,crank your discman to full power until distortion is reached, than that would tell you how loud that is( ouch !),turning down - 3 db = half that (50 %)now how can you tell ?,..simply ,when you perceive it as half as loud, then that is - 3 db and - 6db is thus a quart( 25 %) half as loud from when you turned it down last ,so now we are down at 105 - 6 = 99 db !that would be an amiable listening level, turn that - 3 db down ,and you are ready to join GWB`s stethoscope congregation .. yet 99 db - 3 db= 96 db,is still four (4) times louder than the calc`s 90 db ,at that level ,you would need a very good stethoscope indeed ! That I called DEEP PURPLE for the loudest band ever, comes from their hey-day`s,when they were making it a point to be " Louder than Everything Else " ,since then ,they have been copied by many, but being the first band to use that concept,I rate them nr.1 ! But judging from the sound it's giving I think it's full 8 string with octaves or something...
