i have an oppourtunity to buy a '69 fender stratocaster. it's in very good/near mint condition. it plays well, sounds well.. but seller (my friend - btw) aks for equivalent of $1500. What is it worth in US? i don't know much about electric guitars. I personally didn't like any before playing on that fender.

If you're sure it's really a 1969 Strat, and you like the way it plays and sounds....BUY IT!!!!

That guitar in good condition would be worth $2000 minimum in the U.S., probably more. Depends on color, if all the parts are original, etc. If it's intact, it's hard to think you would lose any money on it if you decided to sell it.

If it's authentic (as in not modified, truly near mint) Vintage Guitar Price Guide '07 has them about $7,000-$25,000+.

Second the "run, don't walk" approach.

If it really is mint and playable, and you like it, buy it. No brainer.

ok, i'll post pictures here in about 2 weeks (that guy went for a vacation to turkey). I'd have to take loan to buy that guitar, but if it's that much worth, i think i'll risk it.
his father bought that guitar from some german player in mid-80s and since then it was used sporadically in local cultural centre, until my friend started playing (about 7 years ago). But he plays mostly classical music and he wants to buy fagot.

fagot is extremely weird flute. it looks like these:

and it's very expensive - playable fagot costs about $4000, good one - $10000

Oh, a Hautboy...
And if you get that question in a crossword,
the answer is Oboe.

I'd rather have a Stratocaster.

There several ways to determine the age of that guitar.
1. Fender Stamped dates on the heel of the neck.(the neck has to be removed to see it)
2. also there will be a date for the body either in the neck cavity or the pickup cavity.
3. The volume and tone controls should have date codes on them.
Here is a link that might help

If it is all there and even close to being a 1969, just get it and determine the exact age later. That is an absolute steal.

ok i've contacted friend, and i kind of booked that guitar. He'll be back at the end of the month, so i'll take that fender and i'll post some photos.
i'm still not convinced that i should pay 1/3 of my yearly salaries for a guitar but... i hope it's worth risk of living in paper-box.
