Good Job Doc! I hope that you like the LX, plus it looks like a great deal if it is as described.

Have you recieved the guitar that you bought last week yet?

Let's have a description with one or two of your great pics. Don't forget an appropriate strap!

Yes.. that was a fantastic deal. As was the 6778 that another member bought from the same seller. We were kinda curious why that 1771LX had gold and pearloid hardware. If you find out, let us know.

I love it when someone posts a question, and then answers it himself. Good answer!!

This looks like either a custom order, or a CCB that someone modified after purchase. Looks like a CCB finish, with a black edge applied, plus the tuners were swapped out for gold ones and then pearloid knobs installed (I've swapped the knobs on three of my own O's, it's easy to do).

The kicker is....the "Ovation" on the headstock appears to be GOLD. That says "custom order" (or neck swap with a Legend?).

It will be interesting to see what you think after arrival with a chance to look at it.

The guitar has arrived.Packed very nicely in a Taylor box with the two stabilizers. So the details first and then my confession.

As far as I can tell, the guitar is as described; it is in nearly new condition. Same for the case. It says that it's a Standard Balladeer LX ( 1771LX). The Ovation logo on the headstock is in gold and the tuners are gold with pearloid buttons. They look original to me but I really would't know whether they are original or not. It plays very nice and sounds very good. I like it a lot. I'll need to lower the action a bit and maybe a slightly lighter gauge strings and I'll be in Ovation heaven. I'm very happy with the purchase but can't answer some of the questions about the gold headstock label and the gold tuners. The neck has a nice v shape to it. Is that typical for a standard Balladeer?

Now for the confession and I really feel bad about this one. I consider myself to be at the master level of sneaking guitars into the house. I've figured out a nearly perfect method of having the guitars delivered to my office and then I take them home in the trunk of my car and can get it down to the basement when the coast is clear, either when my wife goes out or upstairs for a while. Once in the basement among the 30+ other guitars, one more is never noticed.

I had asked the seller to ship this guitar to my office but he never acknowleged that he had done that. So the UPS tracking told me it was going to be delivered today while I was still at the office. So I couldn't take a chance.

As I left for work this morning I left my wife a note that I was expecting one of my "folk" guitars to be coming back from repairs and I wasn't sure if it was being delivered to the office or the house and that she should be on the look out for it.She remembered the saga of my Ovation 12 String so didn't think this was at all unusual.

Well she called me to tell me that it had arrived and that she at taken it inside so that it wouldn't be sitting in direct sunlight for too long.

So I now don't even have to sneak them into the house , I've got my wife carrying them in for me. I'm a very bad person :D

That was definately the most underhanded and sneaky and devilishly clever method so far!

I can see you're gonna be a baaad influence around here!

Great Doc!,

I have a, new to me, CL 1158 arriving tommorow via UPS. I will be out most of the day and have begged my wife to await the arrival. I just hate that it may need to be signed for and / or will sit on the front porch EXPOSED!

Since I have only a few guitars and have consigned two (non O's) to a local guitar shop for sale, I can't quite get by with slipping them in the back door trick.

Thankfully she is understanding..HaHaHaHa.

After she berated me for buying the CL1158 (because I had not sold the just purchased brand new 12 string mistake, NON O) somehow I have convinced her that I have to have a solidbody to replace the Austin Hollow Body Jazz guitar that was placed on consignment.

Damn, I am confused, but am going to run with the last conversation before she changes her mind.

If anyone has a good deal on an O solidbody please PM me, Quickly!!!

Good luck Doc, I know that you will come clean when the time is right.. ;) Post the pics and don't forget the strap!

You should be ashamed. Got any more tricks to share? Like how we get up to 30 guitars so SWMBO won't notice the next one?

If you are at the 'master' level of sneaking guitars, your wife has probably already figured that one out and is just waiting for the right time to let you know about it... ;)

Mark in Boise,

First of all I am ashamed; fortunately my guilt goes away about a millisecond after I strum the new guitar .( What does SWMBO stand for ?)

With the fleet of guitars you have, I don't think you need any of my tricks !! :D It looks like maybe you could teach me something!!

Tom

Steve,

You are probably right. However whenever she buys something, I never, ever complain about it and tell her she deserves it. She may just be waitng for that day that I complain and then my jig will be up.

When ever she asks me why I need so many guitars, I reply: "The reason I have so many guitars is because God said I can only have one wife". She seems more than satisfied with that remark.

I think the flowers, gifts and jewelry for no special reasons, is what helps keeps the balance here. For all I know she may have figured this out and is now simply waiting to see what my next offering will be; or has already planned her next shopping trip !! If this is true she'll never tell me about it and just enjoy the fruits of my guilt.

Regards,

Tom

My marriage is based on trust. My wife trusts that I will not indulge in spending practices that will adversely effect the family, and I trust that she won't kick my ass out for doing it. So far so good. Dave

I found one that may work in the future here. When Glenn's (Amazingly Detached) guitar showed up at the door - the wife was pretty irked until I explained to her that I was actually doing some work on it and shipping it back out. I'm sure once she heard that her mind wandered elsewhere (new Coach bag, shoes, or whatever else they obsess on). She'd probably never notice that one came in and did not go back out again once the work was done.

Of course this might limit me to guitars with issues.

My big problem really isn't the wife... it's the kids... DAD! Where'd you get that new guitar from????

CrimsonLake,

I have used that story before and one similar to it that goes something like this: I borrowed one of Joe's guitar to try out while he's away on vacation for 2 weeks; of course ,after a few days it is fotgotten. I have found that in order to be a true Master , you can never use the same story twice(except in rare instances and with permission form the dhali lama).

My oldest sons are now in College and my daughter doesn't pay attention to guitars so I don't have to worry about that any more.

Regards,

Tom
