| Did all of you know that there is no longer a Guitar World Acoustic magazine? There is still a Guitar World Magazine, but the acoustic is no longer. Bummer! |

Location: GA USA | Also, there is no Bass Guitar mag. Adam just got a subscription for Christmas. Guitar World came in the mail with a note that Bass Guitar subscribers will now be getting Guitar World instead. There was also a cover blurb... "Now contains the best of GuitarOne", so I gather there's no GuitarOne either? |

Location: Canton (Detroit), MI | Yes, Guitar One magazine is no more, either. I was a subscriber, and Guitar World arrived in its place this month. Yuck. Apparently, GW has "absorbed" G1, GWA and BP all into one mag. That's going to be fairly diffused, and will satisfy no one, I bet.
Well, there's still Guitar Player, Vintage Guitar, and the UK mags Guitarist and Guitar And Bass (yum-yum).

I would agree completely, W2, and add that the reason print is getting hammered is because of content. Compare both the quantity and quality of content on this board with any magazine that might discuss Ovations. No competition.

Fair enough. Compare, say, the readership and traffic on The Gear Page (dedicated to general guitar topics) with Guitar World. The content is much broader, can get very deep for specific issues and the reader doesn't have to wade through three pages of ads to get to one page of information.
If the print companies were smart, they would have started 'open' message boards years ago and driven their readers to them. But, they didn't, and Scherzer and Peterson did...almost by accident, I'd bet...so they get the traffic. The problem that the owners of places like TGP face, though, is the same as print media...how to turn eyeballs into dollars. Assuming they want to do that, I mean. |

Location: ms | Acoustic Guitar Magazine is not what it used to be either. When they review a guitar they hardly ever find anything bad to say about it. They can`t all be good. I think they have lost their edge. |

Location: big island | worldwide newspaper subscriptions are way down too. people are smarting up to the fact that our mainstream media has been attempting to brainwash us for decades. the msm is all owned by just a few who are all in cahoots with the nwo. credible, non-agenda'd independent news sources are available. notice how many of the msm sources are now opening up blog sites. when internet 2 sprouts its wings, kiss the freedoms good-bye. |

Please don't take this the wrong way, but there's been a guy calling our Operations desk for the last two months going on and on about this very same thing. He's not an employee, he just dialed the number by accident once. Now he leaves voicemail all the time about how I2 is the NWO enslaving the world. He's been 'committed' several times in the past and the police say he's "mostly harmless." (The mostly part bothers me)
I'm not implying that you're committable, or anything, it's just that your post is only the second time I've heard anyone say that I2 is going to eliminate (what few of) our freedoms (we have left). Where did you get this information from? |

the info i have read on I2 has been through several independent news services although i have not taken time to view much of this lately. i've been too busy trying to raise my kids in a healthy home environment and keep a good positive mental attitude through it all. the truth of what is really going on behind the scenes, just like the post you submitted on another thread regarding our economy, is rather depressing and has made me feel "committable" at times.
my faith is what sustains me in such a troubled world.
from my understanding of what i have read about I2, the internet as we know it now, will be dismantled and only corporate government (nwo) controlled media will be allowed. some variations on this theme are certainly broadcasted too. |

Location: GA USA | So anyway, I did thumb through the GW, and found the interview with Jack White interesting. I saw him with the Ranconteurs on ACL the other week, and had no idea he was that good a guitarist. And plays some cool Gretsch guitars too.
I've never ever tried to play the tabs in those mags... okay, once on Wish You Were Here, but I pick one up rarely if it has a good looking cover story. Something to read...
But that interview has me thinking about checking out the new White Stripes album. It's supposed to be more guitar laden than the others. |

I've had the opportunity to see the White Stripes twice and The Raconteurs once. I declined each time, although had I known Iggy Pop was going to be at the Raconteurs show, I would've thought twice about it.

Location: NJ | I also had a subscription for "Future Music" (which I got REALLY cheap). A couple months ago, I got a copy of GuitarWorld in the mail saying that I would be receiving it in lieu of the defunct FutureMusic.
I think the parent corporation (FuturePublishing) went thru a scaling-back phase in this genre (music mags). Alot of magazine publishing companies (the bigger ones, anyway) also do genre-specific tradeshows/conventions. We've done a bunch of shows for Future over the years, but never any music-oriented ones . . .
Personally, I think that the mag had just too hard of a time competing with AcousticGuitar.
Yeah, the mags are "different" enough, but there's been a LOT of times that similar interviews with the same particular person will appear in both magazines in the same month.
"So and So" is out on a Press Tour promoting a new album/box-set/tour, and spends two days giving the same interview to a dozen (or two) different publications.
AcousticGuitar just has more visibility/recognition/history (along with Internet features) and survives.
Too bad.
I kinda' liked GuitarWorldAcoustic, as it was pretty direct & concise in it's articles/interviews, and I'd gotten quite a bunch of quick/accurate tabs that became TwoManGroup fodder. The magazine just seemed more geared to the itinerant player, where AcousticGuitar seems to cater to the StoveKnitters (kinda' like the difference between an Ovation and Taylor top-of-the-line coffee table). |
