But I feel close to most of you anyway. (Oh damn, now I'm all drunk and maudlin too! But at least I can still spill/spell.)

On Friday night, I'm at the MainStreets Cafe in Madison, NJ setting for our gig. Just got done loading-in/setting-up, and was just getting ready to fire-up the P.A. and start getting levels.
I'm mopping the sweat off my face with a towel, when a rather confused, young, nubile waitress comes over to me. "Are you Cliff?" she asks. When I tell her I am, she hands me a blank table check with some scribbling on the back. The note says:
". . Play some Richard Thompson (which we ashamedly don't do any of) or some Jerry Garcia (which I absolutely abhor) . ."
great.
We're not even set-up yet, and some clown is making REQUESTS, already!!!
I roll my eyes, and ask the waitress who this came from.
"Some guy named Jeff Whitehead . . . he's on the phone . . . y'wanna talk t'him?? . . ."
