As far as the Adamas line, I think there is a very good reason you don't see any meaningful number of tradional, single hole Adamii. Why? Just based on my own personal experience, that's where I've seen the best performance.

I am definately not a fan of the elite model guitars. An exception was the 1537 which sounded quite nice, but still no match for a high quality center hole guitar. Adamas fibre topped guitars I prefer the multi sound hole or cateye soundhole. The adamas smooth tops with the round center hole just look wrong to me and defeat the purpose of the adamas top and bracing. But I have never heard on in person. Maybe they sound OK, but I would tend to doubt it. Although I like the multi holes, I am no fan of the gay fig leave decorations. It's long since worn out its welcome and just looks silly if you ask me. Dave

Just personal preference. For sound, for those listening, I'm not certain there's a whole lot of difference. For the person playing, the center soundhole configuration is better. You can hear more of what you're playing with a center soundhole. The Elite configuration really masks the sound to the player. I'm always amazed at how much sound comes out of my Adamii and Elite guitars when I hear somebody else playing them.

Joined: April 2006 Posts: 2491 Location: Copenhagen Denmark | How Odd ,all this trashing of the multi-hole design,I bought my very first Ovation Elite 1537 because it was the most beautyful,Elegant guitar I had ever seen, like something that came from another planet, and those Leafs ,made of different woods, breathtaking, mine is a kind og prototype model(sunburst),there seem to be 26 of that batch, the bowl sticks out from the top a bit(as if the top was cut a little too small)so it has imperfections,it`s from 1983,now 23 yrs.later,I think it is still "out of this world",at times, I catch myself staring at it when perched on it`s stand,I do have other guitars, including a handmade guitar, made out of woods that is undescripable, real beautyful, when I find out how to post pictures I will, yet,my Elite has a special place in my heart,I bought it for it`s looks,I kept it for it`s Tone,It has a very "special" most distingtive sound, now, by comparison,I`m also the Proud owner of 2 Legend`s model 1617 (6 string sunburst) and model 1618 (12 string short scale natural)and they are truly fine instruments, and they can play rather loud, all are Deep Bowls, with the 1537 being the "Loudest" of them all, strung with Thomastik bronze gauge 13 - 57 ,strummed good,I have to tilt my head back,if not,it`s so loud,it hearts my eardrums, that`s how loud it can be,No joke this,it has a triple A grade spruce top (Engelmann spruce),and even though it seems that the new Elite`s have lesser wood quality tops ( I`m not sure of this )I can imagine, that when those tops have reached full potential, their sound will be like mine, tight controlled bass, strong "neutral" mid-range,fleeting highs ,so,..Once a Mandolin,a Banjo and my Elite played together, everyone eyed my instrument, and asked afterwards,.."What instrument is that"..I told them it was a guitar.." Ah really " ,it did n`t look like ,and certainly did not sound like one,it Beamed right through the Banjo and the Mandolin ,which is No Small Feat to accomplish ,the multi-hole design has certain Acoustic properties, that a center-hole design can not obtain,I will round of my ramblings,by saying, that the Elite is the most ,distingtive Looking and Sounding Ovation there is ,the guitar that sets Ovation worlds apart from other guitarmakers....Highly recommended !! :) Vic

My choice is the 2080 closely followed by the little Oval hole when rimmed with tortise binding on a Koa top. After that I like the Thunderbolt. Were there any other choices? by the way, back in about 1930, a small, blind snake that more resembles an earthworm, made it to hawaii from the phillipines in some potted plant soil. most local folks don't even know they exist here, but i have found several in the area around our church where i have been putting up fences and constructing a playground area. yesterday, i found the largest one i have seen yet. about 6 1/2" in length and the diameter of a .53 E string. they eat ants and termites, are very quick and definitely slither like a snake. crimson red in color.

The originator of those thread asked for opinions and I gave mine. I don't like elites and I've got my reasons. But that donesn't mean shit to anyone else or about anyone else's guitars. I am thrilled that you love your 1537 and are so passionate about it. I've owned two sunburst ones and they were wonderful guitars. Just not my coup of tea. As far as my own favorite guitars, many people laugh at them or think I'm stupid or deaf. So what. It's just my opinion and personal preference. I may be in Johnson City later this fall with my daughters soccer team. I'll drop you a line when/if that happens. Too bad you missed the Southern Jamboree. There were a bunch of great guitars present! (Some great people as well) Brad
