Hi,

This is my first post here. My name is Gary, and I had a question. I'm considering purchasing either a 2080 or a W597. Has anyone played both of these guitar, and could you tell me a basic difference between the two. Any characteristic sounds either might have. Thanks in advance. I've been a fan of this site for a while.

Gary

W597: W597

The newer model has the VIP preamp which is Ovation/Adamas top of the line preamp.

2080: 2080

2080 -2

The W597 is more traditional and the 2080 is cutting edge and very unique: both are nice; its a matter of personal preference!

Best wishes!

I have the W597 great guitar and I have played the 2080 on several occasions another great guitar if I had the opportunity to choose between the two the 2080 would be the one and it would be based on looks only. I feel the W597 can and does hold its own to the 2080. At least for me it does.

the w597 cobalt i used to own had the OP-50 preamp and was excellent plugged in. i have not played a finer one yet. acoustically, it sounded too thin for my preference, which is why i sold it. i have not had opportunity to play a 2080 which probably sounds about the same plugged in and beefier acoustically.

oh yeah...and WELCOME TO THE OFC, brooklyn!

Gary we love these guitars so its hard to make a choice probably the best thing to do is buy both. Or play them both and decide which one suits you best.

What you REALLY need is a custom 12 fret 2080 textured top, cutaway, mid bowl, slot head.

Yeah, that's the ticket! :D ;) :p

The 2080's top is more "alive".

i'd say that the 597 as a more compresssed, "harpsicordial" tone. Extremely balanced.

The 2080 has more deeper rounder tone but still very dynamic.

The 2080 is acoustically the most impressive sounding model made by the good folks in New Harford, period, IMHO. Its cuting edge looks may or may not do anything for you.

The Cat'sEye doesn't personally "do it" for me, but the sound is KILLAH!!

I'd love one with just simple, EliteT soundholes . . .

"more deeper" . . .

My mother just winced and thought, "I hope they don't know he's my son"

That is a very accurate assessment.
