Location: SoCal | I picked up my 1537 today and was reminded of what a great guitar it is. If it were the only steel string I had, I'd feel just fine about it.
I had Elixir phos/bronze lights on the OFC slot, and busted my G string. All I had in the house was EXP lights so those went on. They sounded fine at first, but after about a week, they sound dull. Odd for a coated string. Anybody else have that kind of experience? |

Location: Bluffton, SC | Not here, Paul. I've got Elixer Lights on my 1537 and I like 'em. They seem to last me but, to tell you the truth, I've been toying with the idea of going with something little different. Maybe even heavier.
Sooo I'll take suggestions too... |

Location: Bluffton, SC | To expand on that a little more, I tried the Elixir Phos/Bronze earlier and I really didn't like them. Very tinny to my ear and I'm looking for a little warmer sound. Maybe they sound a little better on the OFC but I can't imagine anything sounding sour on that. |

I had the privilege to play Mitchrx' 1537 (before it went to the factory to have it restored), and Weaser P's 1537 (during the recent tour). I'm not sure what strings came equipped with either, but I was completely blown away by the sound and tone that these beauties were reproducing. |

Location: SoCal | I've got Elixir mediums on the 1537 (poly or nano, I can't tell the difference). That guitar sounds great no matter what's on it. Weas, I don't put the phos/bronze on the 1537 'cause it's a bright guitar to begin with. That's one reason it's got mediums on it, to tone down the brightness.
Every guitar demands something different. I've got Elixir phos/bronze lights on the 87C, and the GC RI, Elixir phos/bronze mediums on the FD14, and had lights on the OFC slothead. I might try mediums on it. The 87C and GC RI need a brighter string on them. The FD14 just seems to respond better with the mediums. |

Location: Blue Ridge Mountains | When I got my 1687-2 it came with Adamas strings (I assume 1918's) and I liked them but they seemed to go dead quickly; I then put a set of the new Elixir Phos/Bronze (lt. ga.) and removed a shim to lower the action...Sounded very good but I noticed the volume was much softer...Paul, if you remember, you suggested going to a medium string...Well I bought a package deal from PEZ of seven sets of strings: 5 Adamas 1919's and two Guild M450's: all of these are .013 to .056. I also added the shim, back and restrung: I have been totally happy! The volume is back and I find that the guitar is much more responsive...I don't play lead and don't bend strings on this guitar; but do finger pick and play so they work great...I haven't decided what I'll replace the strings on the 47RI when they need it but I do like the sound of these. We'll see (and thanks Paul for the idea!)...

Location: South of most, North of few | I had Elixir med/lights (12-56) on mine when it went back to the factory (due back today as a matter of fact!) and they sounded great. Anyone ever try silk and steels on one of these? You all are right though,the 1537 is a fantastic piece of guitar flesh! :D |

My ear isn't "used" to the tone an longer... That happened all the time with my former 1537's. Once I got the wider nek'd guitars, they got a lot more play... and then, one day I'd pick up the 1537 and I'd say... "Damn, this guitar sounds good!" |

Location: SoCal | Jeff, that happened last night with my FD14. I hadn't picked it up in a couple of weeks and last night it sounded great. I finally learned with that guitar that it's a fingerpickin' guitar, not a strummer. It's got Elixir phos/brone mediums on it and the tone for pickin' is just wonderful. Add in the wider neck and the satin cedar top and it's just sssoooo unlike anything else I have. It's a real treat to play.... |

I have three or four dozen in the string drawer and I change strings only when the dead strings become noticeable, which means not just dead, but dead, dried up and buried. Plugged in, even dead strings can sound decent. Isn't that what effects are for? My current supply includes Adamas 1717s, 1818s, D'Addario EJ10s, 11s, EXPs, and some XLs for the 'lectrics, some DRs, a bunch of Fender lights, and maybe a few others that somehow come my way. The coated Elixers are expensive. When purchased in bulk, non-coated strings can easily be found for between $1 to $3 per set. Seems odd. Spend over two grand (or more) for the guitar, then put on a set of one dollar strings and continue playing them even when they're dead. Like I said, I need to concentrate more on string quality. |
