Joined: February 2006 Posts: 43 | I just got back from the summer Namm Show today and stopped by the Ovation booth and talked with Bill Xavier. He showed me the new limited edition Glen Campbell Blue Bird guitars and I almost passed out on how cool they are. These guitars are exactly like the ones that came out of the factory years ago that Glen played. They even have the original logo on the headstocks. The fingerboard is ebony and the finish on these guitars, I am lost for words. I told Bill I will want to get one of those in the 6 string edition. He advised that they should be available at the end of this month.

Did Bill elaborate on how the body was constructed? I believe Glen's were constructed of Urelite over an aluminium frame. Edited by jay 2017-07-13 4:36 PM

Except they are made of wood, passive pickups(I think) and a different bridge, but.... other than that I think they are fantastical !!! A great tribute.

I did not ask Bill what the bodies were constructed of. I will be back at the show tomorrow and if I get a chance to talk with him. I will ask him a few more questions about these guitars. Not too many of these guitars are being built and the 2 that are the Namm Show I heard, have already been spoken for.

I am sure it is a little hard to duplicate something that was done so well back in its time, but Ovation did do a good job on these tribute editions. I wished Ovation would have put Glen Campbells name on the guitar somewhere, like they did on the acoustic versions. I haven't been able to find out yet, what the price of these guitars are. I will be at the winter Namm Show in January and I wonder what Ovation will come out with next! I would love to see the reissues of the semi hollow body guitars. Maybe if I see Bill today, I will ask him about that or put the idea in his head!

The birds are nice, but due to the fact that only a dozen or so are being made, the price is not going to be cheap and I am sure most of them are already spoken for. The birds at Namm were already snatched up. I bet Ovation will be having more surprises in store for us in the future. I can hold out for the January Namm Show.

Each NAMM they roll out something that tugs at the heartstrings of Ovation faithful and make it available on a limited basis or by order. Let the Asian guitars sit in the showrooms. In essence, Ovation has a Custom Shop. And they seem to be making those who want a particular guitar, very happy. On a side note, Charlie at some point had to say..."thank God for Glen Campbell". I cannot help but think that Bill owes some gratitude to him also...as well as Charlie and the R&D dept. that paved the way for today's yesterday's guitars.

There are a few available if you contact Damon, since I am not getting one now, unfortunately.

Joined: February 2006 Posts: 43 | The prices Bill mentioned on the Namm video is not what I was given a price quote on by a dealer, who emailed me Bill's price and retail price. These prices were way off the mark. If the 6 string was going for around 2,900 I would have ordered one. Ovation is getting back to making great guitars again.
