Joined: December 2014 Posts: 1713 Location: Frozen Tundra of Minnesota | I have to share the New Bling I got for my 1719 Custom Legend! I had wanted to do this for my Custom when the Shop is ready, but I wanted one now, and my 1719 does not have a TRC!! This is my Buddy "JJ", and I worked with Bill Nichols to get it just exactly the way I wanted it! He made suggestions, we talked woods, and inlays, and then we were set to go! I can't tell you how thrilled I was to get it in the mail today, and wanted to share! Bill Nichols is located in Maryland, and here is his website: www.nicholsinlay.com I emailed him, and sent along the drawing I had of JJ, and explained what I wanted done. He wrote back, and asked what type of Guitar it was going on, which Model and Color - and then suggested different wood types that would look good with that headstock wood. We discussed adding in the "JJ" as I had not been successful adding it myself, I lacked the right font. But he added it in, and it was Perfect! He discussed which type of inlay to use for what (Abalone, Mother of Pearl, etc) for which parts, and then emailed me a sample of what it would look like finished, and gave me a quote. He is extremely nice to work with, very knowledgeable, and I thought his price was very reasonable! I got the TRC of my Dreams, and when I get to have my Custom Patch Job done at the Factory, he will be making me one for that guitar too! He has TONS of pictures, styles, types (people, animals, logos, etc) to look at on his web site, and I found things I liked from several different ones, and put together what I wanted. There is not one thing I would change from what he did, it was even better in person than his pictures (I always love when that happens!) He also does wood tuner knobs, so if you are looking for those, he has them too! Thanks again for sharing my excitement with me!! Edited by Nancy 2016-01-09 8:57 PM

Do you have a Tiel??? I do have a Cockatoo also, but JJ was my little Buddy! Because this guitar did not originally have a TRC, Bill used an ahesive on the back that you peel and stick on, so no holes to drill!!! He said to put it where you want it, because it would be very hard to get it off again later, or to change to a different guitar.

LOVE thatBird!! . . . *****SNORT***** LMAO!!!!!!!!!! That is GREAT!!!!!!! I had a Severe Macaw that loved the ex, but hated women, I called her "Bitchy-Bird", can't say I miss her. But I had JJ for 17 years, and I still miss him so much. People keep bringing me critters, and I can't say no. They do keep me busy and poor, but I love them all. Nice to meet a fellow Tiel Person!! They are my Favorites! Did you have your Blue Front all those years?

He inlaid her signature, making her guitar a signature model ;> Now it is a custom model after the Mothership replaced the top (delaminated) and put on different epaulets. A custom TRC can make a big difference in how personal a guitar feels.

A custom TRC can make a big difference in how personal a guitar feels. It really does!!! It is like a Tattoo, it makes it individually *yours*! I was thinking that Ovation could offer a personalization on the guitars that they are gearing towards the younger folks, with a Special Order decal to add to the face. Young people will put out $300+ for a tattoo, and how cool would it be to have your tattoo on your guitar too? Just a thought! I'll bet your Daughter still loves having her signature on her guitar, VERY Cool Flysig!!
