A bit too wild for my tastes, but if it is, it opens up an Entire new World of Art for the backs, and Personalization!!! Myself, I really like this one: (I am guessing Walnut Laminate, GORGEOUS!!!) I would have gone with a dark bridge and different colored brown and black eppies though. Did you notice that the bridge has slightly changed too?

That's a standard bridge for an EA-68 Viper Nancy. The strings go through the body to the back. I've had two Vipers that were sacrificed to GAS, but I really want another one. Too bad I'm broke....

Thank you - I am going to have to go study them!! Edited by Nancy 2015-12-15 12:47 PM

Joined: December 2014 Posts: 1713 Location: Frozen Tundra of Minnesota | Thank You Damon!!!! So a Viper is an Electric Model with a Solid Wood Body, and but with carved out chambers? What kind of top do they normally put on one? A laminate, or a solid? Do they produce a totally different tone than say a UKII? They look just like a regular Elite Acoustic, but are much thinner, and are solid body (with chambers). Interesting!!! I would love to hear what one sounds like! Thank you SO much for the pictures, now I NEED to know about them. If I end up with one, I am coming after you and Patch!!! LOL!!

They really didn't sound much different than a Les Paul unplugged, meaning they had no acoustic value. To support a little of what OMA brought up in another thread, the EA 63 certainly had the Ovation sound, plugged in, as other O classical's had, plugged in. I had a Gibson CE, which had a very similar looking piezo to the EA-63. Not much difference between the two plugged in. Edited by jay 2015-12-15 2:00 PM

Skinny at the nut, with 2 special pickups that make it sound sort of like a Telecaster. The Viper III had 3 pickups and are pretty rare. The second Vipers are the ones you are looking at and the third are the f hole ones they did recently, for an artist whose name I can't spell.

I am not sure if it is Jonmark's talent, or the guitar, but they have a Beautiful softer sound all of their own, don't they? They sound acoustic, but are made like an Electric. Just listened to 2 more of Jonmark's songs, this is a Perfect Guitar for his voice, Beautiful, Soft and Translucent! A voice made for story-telling. Thank You Guys! Once again, "askin' the Boys" gets me the answers I wanted or needed, in a way I could easily understand! You guys are THE BEST!!!! Thank You!! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Now back to the Thread (DW Ovations) was the new REO Guitar of Kevin Cronins's going to be a Viper???

Ok, to make a visional analogy for me to remember, you can tell the difference like tail lights (Camaro/Firebird - Cougar/Thunderbird), but use the neck ends (for a first glance identification): The Roundhole Acoustics have the semi-circle at the bottom of the neck The Elites/Adamas Acoustics have the angled bottom The Electric (Solid Bodies) have the straight cut bottom.

And just to keep you guessing some of the collectors have square end fretboards on multi-soundhole tops.

I keep an eye out for these guitars (DY-92) on eBay. I saw one recently that had an minimum bid of $7K. (yikes!) I don't know if it sold or not. After I finish my torrefied 1617/1117, my next BFLG project will be an Ovation-clone with a wood back like the DY-92.

Only a matter of patience, a good machine and courage... I looked closely at that back and it is wood. It was built up using layers of wood, then was CNC machined to the shape of the Ovation bowl. Not too sure how thick the wood is, but it's probably substantially thicker than the fiberglass bowl or the back of a normal wood guitar.
