Entry-level, for the most part, but imminently serviceable. They are regarded by many, as "red-haired stepchildren". They are still members of the family. I recently did a partial-refret job on an aluminum neck Applause (not a particularly, easy feat), restrung it, played it awhile, & was reluctant to return it to it's owner! There are several of our esteemed membership that have sizable collections of these critters, too. So, like many other things done in the dark, you couldn't tell the difference between the elite & exquisite, versus the homely & honest, really.

I have seen many Applause labels (online) that proudly say "Applause". And yes, it is a fuckner thing... Trying to blur the lines, Y'know? Notice the model number is "AB" for Applause Balladeer... Whereas previous Applause models were "AA" and "AE"... depending on if they were straight Applause acoustic or were acoustic-electric. Like Gemm sez... This explains why some people don't know what they've got.

Mind you, I hated Fender long before they destroyed Ovation. They have a touching (but false) story about how they are employee-owned. That may have been true once... (understand that paying employees in stock is cheaper than paying them with real money) But in the current embodiment Fender is an investment company. Under the FMIC name they buy music companies, chop-them-up, move the jobs overseas, and when they are done the sell what is left over. Not necessarily more evil than any of the other capitalists. But pigs nonetheless.

Can you elaborate on your statement? Are you implying all Ovations made previously are just old guitars?

I totally agree, the best ovations are the old ones!!! I was just trying to get a feel of what he thought, the everything else is just old stuff leaves a lot of latitude in interpretation. Currently I'm looking for nothing but old ovations since I doubt there will ever be another model like the old deep bowl USA ovations Also I don't imagine there going to quit making applause guitars since their an established entry level brand,I just checked online and guitar center is offering a new "applause elite", talk about blurring name recognition Edited by 2wheeldrummer 2015-09-15 9:48 PM

I loved my first Applause and still have one for the kids. They are good learning tools for not a bunch of cash. It made me yearn for better instruments as my ability grew. Can't wait to have my dream guitar built. Cheers.

In the end working to making money out of discarded brand and doing it the right way. I'll second that. It's not easy to START a company - even more difficult to RESTART a company that's been put to bed. Do you see anyone trying to bring back Pontiac, or Plymouth, or AMC? Bill X and DW are pushing a big rock up the mountain - they'll need more than our moral support to pull this off...
