After a lot of thought I've decided to make a conscious decision to quit playing guitar. I've accomplished everything I wanted to with my playing and it doesn't interest me as much as it used to. I have a few other interests and pursuits that take up much of my time and I rarely grab a guitar anymore. I will be selling my O GCS-771LX-C soon. It has a flawless cedar top and a beautiful inlaid abalone soundhole ring. Perfect guitar made in 2006. I'm interested in opinions on what I should ask for it.

.
A few times now while going through the Bun & Run the car ahead of me paid for my meal.
I've paid for the guy behind me a few times also.
It's a good feeling either way.
.
When ever I've tried to profit from what was a generous gift, it seems to have always come back to bit me.
Karma is real.

I've seen a lot of kindness on this board. In the last 6 months I've given away 2 guitars and a viper case. I don't like selling to friends. Expanding on what Beal said, find somebody who wants or needs it, who can't afford it, and give it away. Karma.....

Back in the salad days of this little club, there was a bunch of activity around sending guitars to military folks stationed overseas. Nice guitars that were surplus to people were donated and made a huge difference in the lives of kids far from home. Maybe you can do something like that.

Dave, if memory serves me correctly, you benefitted from quite a bit of generosity (tangible and intangible) from some of the members of this board. Wouldn't you want to continue that good will and pay it forward?

On a different view...

Why would you just quit?
Cat Stevens quit (for a while) but he had converted to Islam...
Then he decided that quitting was a bad (dumb) idea.
And it ain't like you are gonna quit "touring".
Now, if your fingers are getting arthritic or something like that...
That is when you move to Open Tunings and maybe a slide.
Or a dulcimer or one of those McNally sticks.

If you just wanna sell your guitar... That is another thing.
That is what the "For Sale" section is for...
Either way, I am sure that you will miss it when it is gone.

This came out of the blue. Especially because you were so passionate in the past both about your guitars and your playing. But I do understand that you have to have the fire in your belly or playing is a meaningless activity. But what will Bob G. do when he doesn't have you to kick around any more? You have to factor in that fine gentleman's feelings before you commit to hanging up your guitar for good!! But either way best of luck to you in whatever other pursuits are currently calling to you and tugging at your heartstrings.

If you physically can't play any more, or it gives you discomfort, then yeah, give it up.

But if you're just tired of playing the same sh*t and going nowhere, then just put it in its case (with something to keep the humidity right) and put it in a cupboard for a few years.

If you're able to play but just don't want to play, selling it would be a BIG mistake.  Sounds like a nice guitar.

Keep it.

Oh please, everyone. This is just another DaveKell attention seeking post, sort of like the one where he thought he was dying. Then suddenly his doctor finds that he 's perfectly healthy and he quits all his pain medication. It's also entirely likely that it's just a sneaky way to attract interest in a Guitar For Sale.
I think he should quit the guitar, and begin writing his memoirs..."50 Shades Of Duane Allman"

I think on the AGF he announced quitting many times sometimes for health, sometimes for money, sometimes for family reasons and often has been the recipient of guitar, amp, and cash donations as a result. The early suggestions to return those favours are spot on, especially in light of his recent windfalls.

Here is a statement from the first post I made about this guitar: " I can pick it up for $300... maybe even less than that." This guitar wasn't a gift and didn't even come with a case. OMA turned me onto the Ovation gigbags I bought for it. I did recently give a guitar away to a kid that was originally given to me. However, on a disability income this one has to be sold.

Yes, he has claimed that a fellow OFC'er helped him out purchasing a guitar here...then he shows up wanting to buy an ovation that will make everyone envious because "Money is almost no object if I find one that wows me.

Which turned into tires for a powerstroke, a stroke, a quack, 20 year old arteries and proclaiming "Hell, you might actually like me now"

In one post.

Guilty as charged. The windfall had to go to paying for a surgery my son needed so bye bye new Ovation. The change left over bought needed tires for the truck. The emergency hospitalization when I suddenly couldn't walk upright produced the test results you accurately quoted. The fact is a lot of overwhelming life events have been occurring here. I've had to take stock of how I want to handle them and make some hard decisions. To set the record straight, the only benevolence I got on this board was a donation towards a fourth of the cost of a previous guitar I bought. The new amp was from someone who thought I sold him another guitar too cheap. Facts get distorted quick here.

I don't normally contribute to posts like these, but I just have to ask. You had a kid given to you that you now have to sell?
