Unplugged, is there a noticeable difference in volume between a Mid and Deep bowl?

Thanks....

Its not a vs for me. In traditional terms, more of a dred & OM difference. There's a place for each.

Its more than a volume difference to me,the deep bowls have such a better low end and bass response.midbowls are great plugged in and the lx models have a really open tone but i'm hooked on deep bowls, just my 2 cents

Ahhhh, but is low end bass response always "better"? Mids can cut through a bassy mix of frequency range instruments in a complementary and attention getting way. I love to record acoustically with a mid, as I said, where one might be looking for an OM or OOO cutting mid range. Different than a deep bowl, but not necessarily inferior.
And, I love deep bowls too.. I own three.

Its the different flavors of ice cream discussion, each has its own attributes i was just commenting on how its not just a volume difference but a issue of tonal qualities and if we start talking bracing patterns thats another can of worms to open up.

Now, to add more confusion...

I have two Super Shallow Bowls.
Elite T 1868T, and an Adamas 1881.
They both have a penetrating voice.
Not Booming lows...
But really clear mid-range tones and tinkly highs.

I've played two mid bowls, and have a few deep bowls and two contour bowls.

The contour bowls sound great acoustically - but I love deep bowls. If it came down to making a decision, then I'd go deep bowl.

ps I find that I have to keep a good eye on my spelling when I'm talking about bowls. I don't think it would go over well if I said that "I'd go deep bowels"

Thanks for all the replies. My last Ovation was a Cedar topped 1768 and before that a Patriot A/E (#610). I play 50/50 split plugged in and unplugged. Currently playing a Martin HD35 with K&K Pure. Saw a middie local, but sure liked those deeps bowls I've had. I think I'll keep my eye open for a deep A/E Custom Legend or Custom Balladeer.

Taste and functionality. I have a mid A and a ssb O. They have different voices but I like both. Should I part with one it would probably be the mid as the ssb suit my finger picking technique well. If I were an acoustic only player and looking for hight volume and loads of bass I would probably choose differently. I never tried a deep or contour kind of bowl I dont feel attracted to them. The ssbs I have tried have had the sweetest sound. But then - what can you expect from a guy who also dreams of having a Guild Songbird.

Heheh....we'll have to see about that. From what I've read, I may need to refresh my engineering degree to figure out how to post pictures here.

Here you go. Aside from the other 2 ways in the FAQ, you can do this too....

Unfortunately, this is the only site where I can't upload from my computer. No, I have not made a gallery since we transitioned to the new format (yes, I understand why). Nancy's comment about using the "reply" appears to be the only easy alternative.

Yes, that's one of the two methods mentioned in the FAQ:

The RTE (We'll say RTE now in place of Rich Text Editor) pops up in the text window one of two ways:

a) Hitting the 'Start a New Thread' button will bring up the RTE within the text box if youv'e set it up as the default when composing messages. If the RTE is not set to the default, you will have to click the "Use Rich Text Editor" button in the bottom left of the window

b) Hitting the 'Reply' button on someone else's post within a thread

To insert a picture:

    • Click the 'Insert/Edit image' button
    • Paste the URL for the image in the 'Image URL' field. The other fields are not necessary but you may want to limit the width of your photo to 800 by filling in the size option.  (600 x 800 as example)
    • Click 'Insert'

Well...that wasn't so bad. Arrived today. Needs a good cleaning, polishing, re-string, and the battery box came loose in transit so I need to fix it so it doesn't wander around inside the body.
