I don't need it to protect from use of picks but more for appearance. So far, never found someone selling an original. Everything else works well, matched finish of my Tornado. No problem with my 2 1658's, 1659, Jorgenson signature Takamine, and the Martin D12-45. Working on a trade for the 1679 CL (from the 2000 Elton John tour) that I sold to one of my staff several years ago. Got the 6759 from one of the players on the tour...Kim originally said "you know we officially own this" - guess after Fender, I am home clear.

And a small soundhole acoustic shiny bowl Balladeer 12-string. Let my 1688 go recently. May regret later but went to a great guy in Texas. Edited by Tony Calman 2015-05-01 10:59 PM

I have some, but not sure which storm they are for, but I know they don't fit the standard Tornado or Thunderhead... sooooooo I'm thinking they might be for the Hurricane.

Guitar came in okay but the pickguard broke. Did a little sanding to remove part of the pk, sealed the crack, and ok but would still like to get the right one. This is a pic from google, origin from an OFC'er poster. Edited by Tony Calman 2015-05-02 9:12 PM (Hurr-8.jpg) Attachments ---------------- Hurr-8.jpg (40KB - 1 downloads)

The very first ones didn't have 'Ovation' etched in. Here's a '67...

However, as some of us have done, Glen Campbell truss rod covers could have been put on various guitars that merely had a black cover. Wouldn't be surprised to find that some early Storm pickguards were replaced when the newer logo version was available.

Damon, I understand the holes for the screws but what were the four larger holes for...not on my Hurricane but on my Tornado (as well as the serial number). I thought at first that it would be to bolt on the neck but the Hurricane 12-str must have more tension than a 6-str???

The medium sized hole in the middle pushes against the neck and sets the angle in cooperation with the four neck screw/bolts. Basically you use the hole in the middle as a pivot point to set the angle. The four smaller holes are where the neck plate screws in. At least that's how it works on my Eclipse.

Yet, a 12-str should exert more pressure than a 6-str. In addition, my Tornado doesn't have the middle hole/bolt that is in Damon's photo. As to the Tornado, the heads of the bolts look close to the ones used to put furniture parts together (large flat phillips head cam lock fittings). My curiosity does not extend to removing them as the neck is good as it is. (Cam.jpg) Attachments ---------------- Cam.jpg (15KB - 0 downloads)

In this photo there are the 4 screws for the neck bolts. The two versions were that initially they were just wood screws to the neck, later they were the standard bolts that appeared on most of their solid-bodies as well. The hole in the middle is for a "set screw" of sorts to set the neck angle. The four other screw holes (small ones) are just the ones that hold the plastic cover in place as there wasn't an actual "neck plate." Miles

This is essentially measuring the center-center of the two pickups. The guards I have are notched for adjustment screws being 3 1/8" apart.

My curiosity does not extend to removing them as the neck is good as it is. They may look like camlocks, but they are regular neck bolts. When you say "Hurricane does not have the screws to the neck. " what does that mean? The neck is attached with screws or bolts.

No serial number under the plate, just a crude carving of "Kurz". I even took a flashlight to see inside the 'f' holes for any residue of a label. No serial on back of headstock. Unlike an Adamas, there is no access panel so I can't tell if there was a serial number on a brace or heel. No other evidence of screws or bolts or a serial number which is why I recorded it as 1968 v. the Tornado as 1967 on my Excel spreadsheet. I didn't expect that they were cam locks in the Tornado but they were a surprise due to their head size and flat. However, as shown in the picture, Dave has or had two examples where one has a separation of almost 5" distance between the p/u's where another has the p/u's closer together (broken pickguard that I modified would probably have fit the guitar with the closer spaced p/u's. It definitely did not fit on my Hurricane or Tornado.) Under the plate of the Tornado (serial # 1222), there are four bolt heads similar looking to a 'cam'. I have no idea how the Hurricane neck is attacked either by inside screws under the top or glue. Not complaining as the neck is great even after all of these ? 47 years. At this point, it doesn't really matter but it is interesting...sold off the Storm bass and the T-Head a few years ago but I have two great examples that play well of Ovation history. Amazing.
