Adamas 1897 on the 'Bay here:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/361276478281?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&s...

I searched around for more info on these, and frankly dont see how they differ from 1597s. More to the point, it appears this specific guitar has been listed on at least two other forums at more or less the same price and shipping charge.

The question: the price seems good for a player, but that neck crack bothers me. Seller says its been dealt with but i cant see how (no glue that I see). Also the action seems unusually high. Does the neck or anything else about this guit bother anyone? Anyone know the story of this specific guitar?

Oh, and what IS the difference between 1897 and 1597?

Thx

I can't answer your question, but this guitar has been mentioned in another thread.

Not always. 5 can be a shallow bowl on Ovations as well. Case in point, here's a 1567 Legend I used to have...

Ahhhhhh NUTS!!! I give up!

From now on, there are TWO Styles of Guitars:

1. I WANT NOW!
2. I WANT IT SOON!!!

No more acronyms, no more numbers... plain and simple!

(Gorgeous Guitar Damon, it would be a: I WANT IT NOW!!! Guitar)

Nancy, where would "My life won't be complete until I have it!" fit.

I might add that, based on my experience, this reason can be used multiple times

Nancy, you have a very mild case of O-itis

Talk to me once it progresses to I NEED

I think I've had somewhere in upwards of 20 something various Legends now. I still have 3. That one was replaced with an R869 (Custom Legend with built in Roland Midi pickup). I was just playing with it last night for oh... man... 5 hours I guess. I bought a new synth for it, a GR-55. I was amused for hours.

The R869...

Roland GR-55..

That's okay, as long as I don't have to take anymore pills for it, and no comes at me with a scapel. The next person who comes at me with a scapel is going to find it where they never thought they would find one!

LOL!!! I know I don't *need* any, my life is very happy and complete! I am pretty easy to please, and I don't have to answer to anyone but myself anymore. But, my *I WANT IT* side, can be a little unreasonable sometimes, especially when I get passionate about something!

This is one reason I appreciate you guys so much, and you sharing your knowledge, I am pretty impulsive, but you guys teach me *what* to be impulsive about, the Good stuff!

P.S. I WANT your Custom Legend too, I LOVE those Custom Legends!!!!

The ovation numbering code is unfortunately much more complicated than that.It depends on if your talking O's or A's(Adamii),what decade its from and if they felt like making it complicated just to mess with anyone who thinks they've got the system down...lol
If you go to the FAQ section theres a couple pages with info on decoding model numbers, color codes, year and a big page where you can look up most guitar numbers to see there basic specs.

Another example of a 5 not being mid bowl is the 1587-5 i own,Adamas, deep bowl,A/E,cutaway

LOL!!!!!

I reference that frequently, but see irregularities, I didn't know that Adamii and Ovations are different (with numbering, they are very obviously different).

If you guys don't mind, I will just ask you when it gets too confusing??

Now, what is a UTE???

Unidirectonal ....

Ute is short for U681T, an Adamas a/e six string textured top slothead 12-fret that the factory made, sold for $1,700 (4/11/2005, at least from Al) in 2005. This did not have the 'Adamas ring'. Very plain but a great player. Suzie said it had "surround sound". There were several that were ordered with a wide neck and at least one 12-string. There were some quality control problems such as Noah's guitar. I had no problems with the one I rec'd, sold later but only as I had gotten #50 of the pre-production 1687 slotheads. Basically a guitar worth far more than the factory priced it at. Only made for one year.

The factory came out with a CVT similar the next year at approx 80% higher cost.

Only other example of low pricing that comes to mind is the 2005 Collectors (Engleman Spruce, Contoured Bowl) that I bought for $1,350 1/15/2005.

Probably a picture of it on Dave's OvationGallery or Jerome's OvationTribute.

I had wondered the same thing. From what I've discovered it comes from a post made by Schroeder in 2005.

Concerning the previous post, from Dave's Ovation Galley, it appears that there were 6 (not 1) of the 12-string Ute's:

The U681-TA has quickly become one of my favorite 6-string Adamas guitars. But from the day I received it I craved a 12-string version. In late 2006 Lost Art Vintage Instruments had the vision to build a limited run of special 12-string versions using a 1-7/8 inch wide neck and slotted headstock. The pre-amp was upgraded to OP-Pro. But other than that, this limited run of 6 guitars is an exact copy of the 6 strings model. You can read about the 6-string U681 HERE. The setup and playability are excellent and the sound of this 12-string is pure magic. This is one serious instrument and will hold it's own against any other Adamas model. The volume is incredibly loud yet very finely detailed and it rings like a bell. The bottom end is deep and the highs are very crisp. The 12 fret neck attachment works very well for 12-strign guitars in general and this limited edition is no exception.

Thank You!!!!

I am running out of acronyms to ask about (Thank You God!), but I do have one question about the CVT vs SMT in regards to the Millenium.

The Millenium is considered a SMT, but has a CVT top (Crossweave pattern on the face), is that just because of the wood in between the 2 pieces of carbon fiber? So it has the "looks" of a CVT, but the make up of a SMT???

And what does CB stand for? Mill-CB ??

U681T, nicknamed the Ute (or Uterus).

Black, 12 fret, wide neck, uni-directional textured top, non-cutaway slothead.
Still on my list...

Thank You Waskel!!

I hope you get your Ute!! And Thank you for the picture, that helps!
So that one is an Adamas II, textured top, slothead, correct?

And one final question (for today), because I have never played a slot-head, are slot-heads ONLY for nylon strings, or can you use steel on them too?? Are they considered Classicals?

Thanks for your help!

My Ute was my first Adamas. The other day when I was thinking about how that 12 string Adamas would match my #47 RI so nicely, I remembered that the Ute 12 was my ultimate "if I could only have one 12 string." Since I never play my 12 string, I may as well wish for something I'll probably never see.

Slotheads can be for both nylon or steel, but don't try to convert a nylon to a steel or vice versa. That's why I got such a good deal on my Folklore. That's a fantastic sounding slothead fingerstyle guitar.

A slothead can make an OK guitar into a great guitar as I have found with guitars from different companies. It also lends itself to a 12 fret to the body neck. My sample is small but my Martin HD28VS, Takamine New Yorker, several Ovation 6's, Adamas 6's, Ovation 12's, and several other guitars that are slotheads are (IMHO) rated higher by me than the same model with a standard headstock. Again, different flavors of ice cream. Martin came out with a mid-range in cost mahogany D-15, standard headstock was a 'dog'; with the slothead, a good guitar for the price.

As to conversion, I agree with Mark's post.

All of this is fitting into place like a 5,000 piece jigsaw puzzle now - I have the outside and part of the middle done now, I just need to keep fitting in the pieces!

Thank you all SO much!!!

NO!

It's not anything like an Adamas 2, it's it's own creature.

An Adamas 2 has a suspention ring. My first Adamas was the same, the 2080 (though not 12 fretter or slothead). Once I got the Adamas with a suspention ring, it was night and day. The 2080 never got played.

I agree about slotheads with the exception of the Pacemakers. I haven't found one I liked yet, but it's a personal thing. Many here love the sound. Plugged in they're fine, but I'm not a fan of the acoustic sound.
