Hello all:

I just recently got this Ovation guitar from the local Guitar Center - It's a Black color with one inlaid epaulet (on the upper side of the guitar in original wood color), no inlaid mark on the fretboard, and with Black-colored string tension adjuster.

The store marked this guitar as GC178 LX Standard Elite. But I could not identify this guitar anywhere in Ovation official website. Can anyone identify this Model for me please?

Thank you.

Charles

that would be a... eh.... GC178 Standard Elite LX.

GC=Guitar Center. Made specifically for them.

Sorry.

Welcome to the board, Charles.

Welcome! String tension adjuster... Is that a tuning gear? Sounds like a Guitar Center edition Elite, which would not show up on the O webpage. Photos would help us to identify it a little better.

Welcome Charles!

it is a made for Guitar Center USA elite, not part of a regular model run, and built with specs and options for Guitar Center.

the LX necks are nice, and the USA elites sound really good.

what preamp is in it? ebony or rosewood fretboard?

inlay on the fretboard?

anyway... you just got a nice guitar.

Thank you all for the information.

I would try to take a photo of it and post it ASAP.

Yes, the string tension adjuster is the tuner itself. It does not have any inlaid on the fretboard. But it sounds better when I tested play
(both unplugged and plugged in to an amp) at the store. Very crispy. That's why I decided to purchase this over a 1778 LX stock Elite.

I don't know if the fretboard is made from Rosewood or Ebony, but it feels very smooth. Overall, it's an excellent sounding guitar.

It's like an Elite T, but with a gloss top and one inlaid epi.

Yes, it's much more like an Elite T with OP-PRO pre-amp with LX cover. I wanted to post a picture of it but don't know how.

That's a real nice guitar. it has the OpPro Studio preamp IIRC. Played one like it at the local GC a few weeks ago and may have sold it for them. I left a young woman comparing it to the 6778LX trying to decide. She came in looking for a decent acoustic/electric and was unfamiliar with Ovation. Frickin salesman didn't know a thing either. He had to be cajoled into finding a cord so she could plug it in. Seems like he really didn't care to sell any guitars that day. Shoulda given me his commission!

Boy have I heard, or told, that story before. I told our local GC that I wanted a commission for all the Ovations I've sold for them. Lately I haven't seen many that were interesting.

Yes, mine looks just like this one except the color of the Bridge and the small LX cover on the headstock are Black-colored and the pre-amp is OR-PRO. The GC marked it as a Std Elite 178 LX. Nice sound though.

Thanks everyone for the info.

I just got the exact same guitar from a Guitar Center in Houston. Sounds really nice unplugged and even better plugged in.

Here is a pic of the guitar augerscope and I got. This one seems like a good deal. I really like this guitar. The sound is fantatic!

This guitar sounds much better than the stock elite 1778 LX when I played at the local Guitar Center here in So. Calfornia. And the neck is very smooth compared to the Gibson's equivalent.

Enjoy playing...

Auger, it seems a lot like the 1778LX, but who knows what exactly the specs are. The other half of my daughter's duo got one just like that a few weeks ago. (GC owes my daughter a commission). It sure is a nice looking and sweet sounding guitar.

I actually prefer the single sided eppis rather than top and bottom. The wood inlay on the GC 178LX looks really nice against the black. Yeah, you got a nice git fiddle there.

It sure sounds nice when plugged in. I wonder how does your daughter's duo like the guitar?

I was told that the specs are the same as 1778LX Elite with Ebony fretboard and bridge but I couldn't tell except it's really smooth when playing it.

They love Ovations and should be in an ad for them. My daughter has a 1778T Red Flame, and her friend has the GC178LX. My daughter also has a 1975ish Ovation Preacher Deluxe.

Check them out at http://www.myspace.com/rebekkahgoesswimming . Most of the recordings were done with one mic into a laptop using Garageband and sound marginal. They're in the process of re-recording most of them. Camoflauge and Pants on Fire were recorded with the guitars plugged in.

Very nice Flysig, you can tell the guitar sound, sweet indeed.

Congratulations to your daughter on her compositions.

augerscope, what a coincidence! I just got a GC178 LX Standard Elite balck, with one epaulet showing wood - Guitar Center in Miami; exactly as the one you describe. I have also searched everywhere and have not seen it. Serial number 617424.
I wonder if there is a way to find out how many where made like this one. Beautiful Guitar!
