The store marked this guitar as GC178 LX Standard Elite. But I could not identify this guitar anywhere in Ovation official website. Can anyone identify this Model for me please? Thank you. Yes, the string tension adjuster is the tuner itself. It does not have any inlaid on the fretboard. But it sounds better when I tested play (both unplugged and plugged in to an amp) at the store. Very crispy. That's why I decided to purchase this over a 1778 LX stock Elite. I don't know if the fretboard is made from Rosewood or Ebony, but it feels very smooth. Overall, it's an excellent sounding guitar. Charles

I left a young woman comparing it to the 6778LX trying to decide. She came in looking for a decent acoustic/electric and was unfamiliar with Ovation. Frickin salesman didn't know a thing either. He had to be cajoled into finding a cord so she could plug it in. Seems like he really didn't care to sell any guitars that day. Shoulda given me his commission!

The GC marked it as a Std Elite 178 LX. Nice sound though. Thanks everyone for the info. Charles

The other half of my daughter's duo got one just like that a few weeks ago. (GC owes my daughter a commission). It sure is a nice looking and sweet sounding guitar. I actually prefer the single sided eppis rather than top and bottom. The wood inlay on the GC 178LX looks really nice against the black. Yeah, you got a nice git fiddle there.

I was told that the specs are the same as 1778LX Elite with Ebony fretboard and bridge but I couldn't tell except it's really smooth when playing it. Charles

My daughter has a 1778T Red Flame, and her friend has the GC178LX. My daughter also has a 1975ish Ovation Preacher Deluxe. It sure sounds nice when plugged in. I wonder how does your daughter's duo like the guitar? Check them out at http://www.myspace.com/rebekkahgoesswimming . Most of the recordings were done with one mic into a laptop using Garageband and sound marginal. They're in the process of re-recording most of them. Camoflauge and Pants on Fire were recorded with the guitars plugged in.

I just got a GC178 LX Standard Elite balck, with one epaulet showing wood - Guitar Center in Miami; exactly as the one you describe. I have also searched everywhere and have not seen it. Serial number 617424. I wonder if there is a way to find out how many where made like this one. Beautiful Guitar!
