Location: Los Angeles | I'm currently doing some neck work on my acoustic. Have a problem with the nut, bridge, frets, neck or truss rod on your guitar? No special tools.

Location: Los Angeles | Hey Mark! Do you like standard blue better? You're right. It was a bit of a pain to look at. Taking the pictures and keeping the page up to date takes more time than working on the guitar. Oh well. It's a fun project. I think I'd give my guitar away to my best guitar buddy before I'd let my wife have it.

Location: Los Angeles | It's getting close to the time when I put a finish on the neck. The nut engraving should be done today or tomorrow. Anyone here applied a catalyzed polyester to an Ovation in the past? Anyone have any tips, methods, techniques or prayers?

I'm not so sure about the knowledgable part. Haha!
Some of the stuff didn't turn out exactly like I planned. I started the page so my guitar buds around the country could follow along. As I got into the project the added benefit was showing my guitar buds how to do their own guitar work. They probably brought their guitars to me because they were too lazy or chicken to do it themselves.
After the project was finished, I made a compensated saddle out of granite that really made a difference.
Anyone in Los Angeles want to play this Ovation and make a short video?

Location: Los Angeles | I would say little by little I've been working on guitars since the early 70's. Truss adjustment here, fret buff there, replaced a few nuts, saddle shims, etc. Individually, I think they're all pretty simple to do. This is the first time I've attempted any finishing and the first time I've done all the the steps on the web page at once. Very satisfying!

I have been toying with the idea of sanding / oiling the neck of my 1617 , at it`s back , it looks as if a dog has been gnawing at it ( No idea how that has happened , allthough for a good many years it has been my "workhorse" ) , your tuition has given me some Encouragement ( I still do n`t know if I dare ) but...I would like a different feel , I`ve heard about handrubbing it with Walnut -oil , what do ya´think ??..

I thought about leaving my neck unfinished but a little voice inside said, "You'd better protect the wood with something." I did some checking at woodworking sites. Some finishes don't sit well on top of others. Sorry, I don't remember what works and what doesn't. I just decided to use the same stuff Ovation uses. I sanded everything to the wood except the front of the headstock as I didn't want to lose the Ovation logo.
As the project was progressing, one reader suggested Tung Oil. I know nothing about wood finishing. The catalyzed polyester (finishing resin) was easier to work with than I thought.
