Well, yea.... it hasn't been smashed into a monitor yet....or crushed by a garbage truck but.... just look at the top.

I don't think it's a show piece, but for $168 bucks, some beginner will be introduced to a fine sounding guitar. What better way to start out! ;)

My Special wasn't a GC, but I didn't remember them having a nice rosette like that. Go for it, bhboy!

I don't blame you, John. That'd be a great backyard player. Stays too low and you might have some competition... ;)

Nice sounding guitar. Mine would be just like it if I left it outside in a hailstorm!

Well, I think the description is fairly accurate, if you ask me. I can't see any MAJOR dings. But I think the "very" could be left out of the 'good condition' sentence.

Yeah, it's had an interesting life but I think it's quite a few major dings away from being a backyard beater.

It's up to just over $200 at the moment, and if I had the money...

I bet it goes to over $300.

The seller copied the description off the O website, but the GC has a Cedar top. That and the rosette make all the difference.

Unfortunately, Cedar doesn't take punishment like Spruce with a gloss finish. I don't mind if a Cedar top has a lot of wear on the treble side of the soundhole, but it looks like this was given to a 5 year old kid on the playground.

It'll still sound VERY nice.

I'd buy it in a heartbeat if I had the bucks. Guitar and factory case are a great value for under $300..

I knew you folks would note the cedar top..it is a nice guitar regardless of the punishment it has taken in it's young life....

I had planned on freeing it from it's prison and maybe I shouldn't have alerted you'all to it's presence...

Would like to acquire my first O....

I think bauer and GV are right.
It's definitely a cedar top and I like very much the cedar sound (and rustic finishing). The O distinctive rosette is missed here.... pity.

I guess each person has a different definition of the word major. From what I see it looks like the majorty of those dings are in the finish (the left upper bout one is questionable) The cedar top looks great to me. I think a refinish job on this would bring it right back up to snuff. Since the seller obviously didn't take the time to touch the dings up with a little oil finish, this could be an opportunity for someone. Remember the dirty Adamas with the dragon sticker??

The camera angle and lighting probably accentuates the dings. If you look at it lying in the case they're not that noticable. Anyway that's natural cedar and any blemish will be in the wood.

TWA, there are some "distinctive" details you immediately recognize in Ovation guitars from a mile away.
The bowl, the peghead....and the overlay rosette.
Personally I like the way Os (and As) looked like for decades. Inlay rosette could be more fashionable but to me not inherent with the Ovation style.
Ovations are not like other brands. They are special in any regard.

The simple rossette and cedar top are unique with this guitar. I wouldn't want it any other way. This guitar is a sleeper, and could be quickly restored. Minimal fret dressing and top restoration would provide a very nice cedar-top Balladeer which is no longer made.

Actually they DO still make them. Now they have the new neck, new microsphere bowl...I've even seen them with an OpPro. The last one I saw had a low-grade Cedar top. Despite everything else it had, I would have passed because of the top. Not a FAULT exactly; it is the low-end US Ovation.

That's news, thanks, it's good to know. So, perhaps the older one will play out better compared to the expense of the newer model. I wonder if it's a production model or special order.

..I meant the new model cedar-top Balladeers. I was curious if they were production guitars or special-order only. I don't remember seeing them on the website.

As far as I know they are carried in-store only. The stores here in Atlanta always carry one or two. They are the LX editions now.
