Location: Orlando, FL | I guess that's what I get for trying to sell a guitar I love. It was stolen right of the wall in my house!!
These are really rare, everyone please keep an eye out. I just filed a police report and registered it at stolenguitarregistry.com.
If I get it back I probably won't be selling it now!
Serial number is 302807.

I hope you get it back. Be sure to check the local pawn shops yourself. The police here not only missed a unique set of instruments stole from a friend, they refused to investigate even when she gave them copies of the ID the pawnshop had on file from the person who pawned it. |

Flysig, thanks for the tip on the pawn shops, The cops told me it would go in a database the pawnshops have. But it sounds like I have to do some legwork myself.
Damon: Yes it was VERY targeted. 9 other guitars were passed up in the same room, including a strat, 63 Gibson Melody Maker, and an 07 collectors. They may not have seen the Adamas on a stand in the corner. They grabbed the most expensive guitar and that's all.
We had, (replaced today) an electronic keypad on the entry of our front door. We've had it for about 4 years and change the code about one a year. I have two sons who bring (brought, now) friends over frequently. Some of these kids, I know and like, but others, I have asked to not come back. It's possible one of them got the code by watching one of my sons. The main suspect, unfortunately is my ex-son in law, who stole from some of his family members since leaving my daughter. This lock was great for us for years, but is insecure, because people are too lax entering the numbers and it's easy for someone else to see. I also found out than ANY electronic entry system can be disabled and opened using a taser or stun gun.
So although only family members should have been able to enter our house, anybody who was sneaky and got the code could have just walked in grabbed the guitar and walked out in 30 second or less. And since there was no other sign of forced entry, it looks like that's exactly what happened.

Location: Utah | Yeah, don't trust the registry for pawn shop stuff. It flat out did not work for my friend. She lost a unique custom made electric violin, a nice amp, and a bunch of stuff like pedals. Should have been real easy to spot on the list, but apparently nobody took the time to scan it. She found it herself after a month or so of checking local pawn shops. |

Location: Texas | I am sure you already know this. Keep an eye on Craigslist. This is a good tool to use to check all or most of them... http://www.adhuntr.com/ Additionally, you have to be proactive with the pawn shops. Take a picture of of your guitar, with the serial # on the back of the picture, as well as the IR # of the report you have filed, with a contact #, to every pawn shop that you can and speak with the owner, or shift manager if possible and leave that picture with them. It helps, if you get a name so that you can call that shop back on occasion, just to touch base. It may keep them honest. lol The circumstances surrounding the theft of your guitar are unusual. That is not the typical MO of a residential burglary....unless they had just got started and were spooked and split. I will forewarn you that if they are burglars worth their salt, they will want to come back, because they have seen the value of what they left. HOpefully your local LE explained all of this to you. I cannot stress how many homes are re-burglarized...so be cognizant of this for the sake of your family and property. Additionally...make sure they didnt pick up a spare set of keys. Many times they will grab keys that are hanging up and victims are looking for the big ticket items that are missing and overlook this...and walk out one morning and their car is missing. Criminal greed knows no boundaries. Good luck in finding your guitar. |

Location: New Hartford CT | Next to the actual theft, the worst part is wondering who did it. It's the kind of thing that keeps one awake at night....wondering what happened.
Hoepfully it's a moron looking for a few bucks and they'll unthinkingly list the guitar on ebay, craigslist, pawnshop, etc and you'll get it back. Like Flysig said, don't trust the police pawnshop database. In my experience it functioned about the same as the Obamacare website.
It's a concern that this particular guitar was targeted out of the entire bunch, suggesting the thief knew ahead of time what they were after and will be cautious. They will understand this guitar will be very difficult to sell to John Q Public and act accordingly.

Location: Orlando, FL | Thanks for the all the great suggestions. I will make some "have you seen this stolen guitar" flyers with pictures, SN, and police report number and distribute them to the pawn shops.
We now have new double keyed lock set on the front door and upgraded our outdoor lighting. I am very concerned about someone coming back for more. This weekend we are picking up cameras and more motion sensor outdoor lighting. We will be upgrading a couple more locks as well.
I think the most disconcerting thing about this is that it happened while we were at home! I have older children at home who work various shifts and so keep unusual hours. But all of the bedrooms are upstairs and no one is generally downstairs during certain hours. We also have 4 dogs, but of course they were upstairs sleeping too! The noisiest one is going to start sleeping downstairs now.

If that is the case, they want it for themself and not for cash. It certainly does not sound like your typical burglary. It sounds cherry picked and that means the thief knew it was there. |

I think you can rule out anyone who is a Martin or Taylor fan. And it makes me think. After my son moved out I converted the front bedroom into a hobby room for Pam & I. I used some Hercules wall hangers and was very pleased how it turned out. However... from the street at night with the shades up and the lights on it just screams .. LOOK ... HERE ARE MY GUITARS!! I hope the 1537 finds it's way back home. |

Yes, that's another issue...
It's possible it was one of the kids friends, but the more I think about it, the more I suspect my former son in law. That asshole seems to be out to screw my daughter however he can, he's broke, he has a recent history of theft (Which he never exhibited in 10 years as part of our family), and he knew how to get into the house and exactly what was valuable.
The officer I spoke to said I could add him as a "person of interest", which is exactly what I'm going to do. |

Unless they read your recent For Sale listing here on the OFC, in which case they are probably reading this thread. Something to think about; you might want to take suggestions and progress to PM's rather than publicly posting info that might help the thief avoid your search for the guitar. Also, assume they're reading this and that they may intend to come back for more. Why warn them about the new pair of Pit Bulls that now live in your guitar room?  |

But a security camera for you cats with thousands and thousands of dollars hanging on your walls might be a good idea, per SOBeach. And as far as somebody reading here and targeting sellers, maybe so, but I've gotta have some faith that people are good, and part of the fun here is seeing the awesome stuff people have. |
