Marcel was one of the best to promote Ovation guitars in the 70's/80's in Europe. In the late 70's, Marcel has developed with "Musique Industrie" a mythic amp called the "Charlie" in honor of Mr Charles Kaman (more information on THIS PAGE) For us in France, we can't separate O's sound from that amp. Yesterday, I was lucky enough to get my own original "Charlie" in very very good condition. This is the small model (Charlie Junior 50W) but it sounds like a big one!!! It was built for acoustic or electric guitars with 2 channels and a reverb. I'm sure that I'll be able to find lots of better new amps models for less that what I've paid for this one but none with that unique sound. It's a Charlie and that's all what I was looking for... I'm glad to share my joy and a picture with you. J :) ![]()

Grow a beard, buy a scarf and you're almost there ... Btw, you look a lot more like Marcel Dadi than does Moody looks like Glen Campbell. Dave

It sounds very good and my Coutry Artist is not the same on that amp. In the 70's, Marcel was only playing Ovation that's why the Charlie was custom made for Ovation and Adamas. 2 samples of that amp sound with an Adamas and a Gretsch both played by my friend Pascal: BLUE FINGER NINE POUND HAMMER Before to look like Marcel, I should loose some weight and to learn how to play guitar. :D If only I could have a very small part of his talent... Paul, to be really honest, I don't like Taylor guitars even if they are very easy to play. And for the price of a Taylor, I can have an Adamas made under my specifications with a much better sound to my ears... J :)

Dadi was several years ahead of the rest of the industry in identifying the need for an amplifier designed specfically for acoustic instruments. The only problem is the weight, they are ball-breakers. At least Jerome got one of the (slightly) lighter examples

Paul Temp is right, that amp is heavy like a "dead horse"!! (a french expression, maybe the same in English... :D ) The weight is 27kg (= 59.52 pounds) and the big model (80W) is probably more than 40kg (= 88 pounds). The guy who sold it to me told me that the weight was one of Marcel's specification for that amp. Probably because it sounds better like that?? J :)

The rigidity of this is a better bet for a good sounding enclousure than cheap materials like MDF used by some maufacturers, but it makes for a heavy box. The other factor is the speaker. The handful of Charlie amps I've seen had (if memory serves) Electrovoice speakers with huge voicecoils and baskets, and they weigh a ton. I've given up on using kit like this now. Bose and Phil Jones is the way to go
