You can make a very good case the Charlie Kaman
belongs in Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. His roundback revelutionized not the acoustic guitar design and production but also how the instrument was used in performance. Being able to not be tied to a condenser mic was big change in the use of the acoustic instrument in concert. The acoustic guitar sound in rock was pretty the Ovation sound for better part of 25 years. I think the acoustic guitar would would have only a minor role in rock without Ovation/Adamas. Too hard to play, too hard to amplify, too hard to transport etc.

Anyway I think we should look into the process.

Ya know this is an accurate statement perhaps light on the emphasis.
In fact his contribution changed a design that had remained basically unchanged for as many years as traditional guitars had been made until Ovation. and what a guitar he made when the Adamas came along, this was the second in a series of inovative firsts that set the guitar making industry on its ear.

Carbon Fiber! Space Age technology meets the Traditional Musician! Very cool stuff, very well worth a place in any history book.

This has merit.

I have no details yet other than you have to write a letter to the foundation.

There may be a petition process like this one for Warren Zevon.

Gess man, Ya know if this is a serious quest. Ya might want to have a concensus and perhaps find out what the correct proceedures are? I mean there are some family members here, that have been involved in the music industry and etc for some time. And there are some guys who are way more worthy, and experienced to look into this than any of us in this thread PEZ. IF you see my point.

PEZ, Look at the list of Inductees and identify if, and where, plugged-in acoustics made a difference? How can we show there was, "...a significant impact on the evolution, development and perpetuation of rock and roll..."?

Thats why I wrote the foundation and asked about the rules.
I already looked at the inductee list and at least a dozen used a round back.
The impact was far larger than just those.
Everyone from America to Zepplin used roundbacks.
In terms of people more worthy?
In the non-performer catigory I can't think of too many people that had such a great impact across the entire industry.

Here are the non-performer inductees

Only one intrument designer is there, Leo Fender.
From 1970 to present litterly 100's of charting songs had Ovations recored on them.

Acounding to NY Times.......
http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?sec=technology&res=9F0DE...
in 1981 Ovation had a 60% market share.
People forget that.
Few companies have ever had that domination of any field of business. Thats like General Motors in 1950s.

At this point its just exploring the idea.

Before launching a campain Beal would need to green light it.

Nothing wrong with running it up the flag pole and seeing if someone salutes.

A good place to start would be the Guitar Handbook by Denyer for why the Ovation Guitar is significant. Also, "The Book" that was circulating, and the Guitar Player Repair Guide by Erlwine. These should have enough sources as to the significance to Rock and Roll.

Yes the acoustic-electric guitar made that big of an impact on the sound of the music. It was really difficult to amplify acoustic guitars. It was also
difficult to transport them. Plus the playability
was not great on most acoustics.
Ovation changed all that.
It also made it so an acoustic did not get lost in mix when other electric intruments were in use.

btw
Others including Fender where attempting
to make a more playable road worthy acoustic.

I should add Martin went 20,000 guitar a year around 1970 to 3000 in 1982.
That was earthquack Ovation made.
In the Middle 90s other companies caught up.

I know Guitar Guy Gary who worked on the guitars at the Rock hall for years. Ill ask him if he knows of how many ovations that are there. i think one of Ritchie Sambora's double necks is still there. Regardless, I dont think he has anything to do with the induction process. Heck, Cleveland is lucky that they even have the induction cerimnoy here once every 10 years. Usually its in NYC and broadcast to the Rock Hall.

I forgot, theres also one of Josh White's Ovations at the Rock Hall. If you ever get to Cleveland its worth a visit. They also have Eldon Shamblins (Bob Will's guitarist)Gold Stratocaster, Duane Allmans Les Paul and SG, on eo fht eoriginal Beatles Sgt Peppers uniforms, I think John lennons, and alot of other neat stuff. Not sure but I think their website may have the highlights. By the way, what is Chalie Kaman doing these days?

Charlie sits around. Don't ask those questions. Maybe Cliff and Al have an approach to this that can work, they can be resourseful....

I think that if you guys're seriously considering this, it should be done as a Father/Son-Team sort of thing.

Granted, Charlie was the impetus for the whole thing (and correct me if I'm wrong Bill, but I don't think he was a major "fan" of Rock&Roll), and Bill was pretty much instrumental in giving these guitars a "rock persona" and getting them into the right hands (albeit 30 years ago).

Plus the fact that Bill has already been honoured on the Hollywood RockWalk might give the whole thing a bit more "cred".
