As you can see from my profile I have quite a few Ovation electrics.
To be honest I am more a collector than a player.
I was made aware of the Ovation guitar when I had the opportunity to play a Balladeer way back in the early seventies. I never forgot that sound.
My first Ovation was my 1581 Adamas 11 cutaway that I bought for my 50th birthday back in 2003.
It was a 1994 model I bought nos from a small music store here in Brisbane and I love it.
I'm really much more an acoustic player and I would like to buy several different acoustic (or AE) models to supplement my collection with a variety of the Ovation sound.
What are your suggestions?

A high end Custom Legend (AD-II or a 30th)
And a textured top Adamas.
Then you can be done.

Or, seriously, have you tried a contour bowl yet? If not, I'll bring mine down before it goes to the mothership for a facelift in June. I think you'll like it. |

Location: Phoenix AZ | Get a nice X or A braced center hole model. Balladeer, legend, Cust. Legend - really doesn't matter. Get a deep or Contour bowl. That'll do you.

1. Get an A-braced center hole model: Deep Bowl Legend, or, for the cosmetics, a deep bowl Custom Legend. If you prefer to buy new, get a 1717 Legend or a 1719 Custom Legend. Or an Al DiMeola
2. Need for an Elite? Every 1768 will do the trick. If you are looking for something more "collectible", try to get a 1537/47, Collector's 1987 or Book Elite. Or one of the Nakao Craftsmen.
3. Need for a Slothead/WideNeck/12-fret? Folklore, U681T, FD14, Koala
4. No Shinybowl yet?: Josh White or Balladeer Reissue.
5. 12-string? Any textured top Adamas 12 string will be the right choice. Slothead-Fan? There is one U681T left, I think...
6. Nylon stringed: Country Artist or Classic (with the Classic you'll get the only LX-Advice from me: 1773 LX, 12-fret)
7. Need for another bowl size? Glen Campbell Reissue (Artist Bowl, handlaid)
This should do it for a few weeks. Not mentioned are more additional Adamas models (like a 1687, OFC Custom order etc.) since you already have one great textured top Adamas.

Location: Colorado Rocky Mountains | A.J., based upon all those solid bodies in your sig line, I figure you lean towards the 'lectrics, like me. That's why I suggested an EA-Viper and/or a VXT, and if you want something more collector oriented, consider custom ordering one of these models (or both) from Al. It will cost a little more, but you'll have something that is truly one-off and special. Then if you want to go higher up on the custom quality ladder, taker a look at Hamer. Those craftsmen (craftspersons?) are amazing. |

Location: Boise, Idaho | I thought you were trying to go acoustic, in which case, I'd parrot what Kurt said, with the possible exception of recommending both a Classic and a Country Artist in the nylon string category. I think there's a world of difference between the two. I started on a similar mission a couple years ago. Look below. I like to bore people who ask why I need more than one guitar with an hour of discussion of the differences. |

Find yourself an Old Balladeer, Artist, or Elite...
Not too spendy, and you may be able to find something suitable on your end of the planet.
If you are more into playing electric, you might wanna find yourself an 1861 SSB Balladeer, for comfort's sake.
But I would still say go for a Deep Bowl, if you really want the Acoustic experience.
