After decades of procrastination, I found the right guy to fix my Mosrite. And finally sent it to him last week.

More pics here: Doubleneck Mosrite

Dammit all to heck. I knew Bob was gonna throw this at me. The Mosrite is gonna cost about $1k to fix,
which is not the issue. For what the thing is, it's a small price to pay.

Bob said, you know, with the whole "Bobby" engraved in the pick guard, and the fact that I collect these, I
was wondering if you'd care to make a deal before I charge you the $ to fix it...

So...

Bob's offered me one of everything in his guitar line as a trade. I'll put pics below. This did not include the
Batman guitar, but I'm thinking I might be able to convince him into throwing one of those in. Total retail on his offer minus the Batwing, is over $6k.

What would you do? To see specifics on each, go to Hallmark
Guitars

Here's what he's offering in trade...

The Deke DIckerson Signature Model:

A 60's Classic (Mosrite Ventures replica):

A Swept Wing:

A Swept Wing Bass:

The Stradette:

And I think the only way I'll consider it is if he throws in the Batmobile guitar:

Will all of those guitars make up for the sentimental value lost if you make the trade?

I really like the Stradette!

Somebody here must know another luthier in Washington. It just seems too convenient for him to trade that stuff for what you got.

You might try this guy ... in Buckley, WA. I have no idea if it's close to you. www.myspace.com/stockwellguitars, stockwellguitars@aol.com, or 253-335-1404.

Ok.. I'll ask.. What's wrong with the Mosrite that's going to cost a grand to fix? Are you looking for a "it's like new" restoration? or just get it properly fixed to working order, repair what needs it, clean what needs it etc...

I've certainly seen a lot worse...

a double neck mosrite?

hey if you want a pile of magic beans I would be more than happy to work up a trade with you.

in other words. find someone else to fix it.

when I was a young dumb kid I bought a national duolian at a flea market for $30 bucks. it was beat to hell. It needed a nut and a screw in the tuning gears and some minor stuff. I took it to the "guitar hspt" and he told me $25 bucks to do what I needed to get it going. no problem called him in a week and he freaked out that I called so soon, although he told me it would be ready that day. so I called 2 weeks later, at that time he told me I abandoned the guitar and he was ready to sell it. Now he told me the guitar needed $50 of repair and he could not tell me what it needed. but I owed him 50 being 19 at the time I barely had the 25 let alone 50 it was about 1977 anyway I got the cash together and picked up my guitar. He told me he wished I never got the money because he could have sold it for a couple of hundred. well then I realized what was going on. so I told the little MF that I would never buy anything ever again from him and that every musician I ever was even near would hear about what a rip off he was. he laughed at me. I did not laugh. so the next time I played the coffeehouse I announced from the stage for people not to shop at his store. I did this over and over. we would meet up at some local flea markets and auctions etc and he would always ask me to stop by the store and bury the hatched join in a jam etc. I told him no way. I continued to bad mouth the guy until he closed the business and I still bad mouth him.

if you ever see anything with a guitar hosital sticker from glendora NJ run there is something major screwed up with that guitar amp effect etc

Don't do it...find another luthier to fix your Mosrite. You have a real rare jem there and money or things cannot replace it now. I would be honored to help you out with some cash if that is the reason you cannot get the Mosrite repaired correctly. Original only happens once!

it needs one pickup custom made from the original 60's magnets (Bob has original mags) and put into into a custom made mahogany casing, the other 2 pickups need some work with getting a lead wire from them, both necks though working OK, really need to be reset, it needs a custom made "mistake plate" (Semie called them this, it hid any rough edges around the back side of the trem unit), and rewiring. The close $1k isn't the issue though. I expected it to be close to that. I've done EXTENSIVE research, and talked to many experts. Bob is the man for the job. He's on the East Coast. I shipped it there last week.

The only other person I think is qualified is in Australia. I'd rather keep it in the lower 48.

By the way, Bob's good folk, and it was I that opened up the conversation. Bob just asked me that if I decided to sell, that I'd consider him first, and it led to the trade conversation. Besides, it has "Bobby" carved into the pick guard, can you really blame the dude?

I think you all are right. I'll hang onto it. I've had it too long, and I need the closure. Besides, it was given to me by a friend who's now, well, gone.

It's hard though. I really dig on those guitars!

WB,

That's a humbling offer. I will also pledge the $25 I offered to get an amp over to the 'troops'. I was never taken up on my offer. Ergo, my pledge.

Damon67,

Offer Bob $1,000 for the herd and have your git restored for another grand. Let's see if he'll accept the offer. I doubt it! ;)

It depends on how much you want and like this guitar. It would be a good way out of it and you keep the one of the new ones you like the best and sell the rest. Not a bad move. IF you want to go that way.

Sounds like you don't. Just have him fix it and tell him someday when it goes he's first on the list to get it if he's still interested then. A little incentive for the work to be done right(but that doesn't sound like a problem anyway).

Sounds like your attached to your Morsrite. If that's the case, your not going to be happy with any of the other guitars. Shop around for a better price on a quality repair.

You know what you might want to do ...
Call the people at Warmoth and ask them if they know of anyone in washington state they'd recommend for repair / restoration work. Then you can see if this guys gassing you. It just seems too convenient that he wants to trade.
