I have been an Ovation fan since the beginning. My Father worked at Kaman since I was a little kid, and when they started up Ovation, he was in on it. I, myself, was an inspector there, in the Moosup, Ct. plant during the 70's and 80's. I believe I own the best sounding guitar they ever made! It came across my workbench in 1983, a black electric/acoustic Legend. The top was thinner than it should have been, and it was already starting to buckle, but oh! What a deep, rich tone! When I got it home, I sat on the living room floor, and made a fist. I GENTLY snapped it on the bass side of the bridge. That put a crack in it, from the soundhole to the bottom. But, it relieved the stress, and didn't effect the sound one bit. I've played that guitar every day since, and it is still the envy of all my friends.
So now I live in the Black Hills of South Dakota, and I own a small music store. I have dozens of guitars, but my old black Legend is the one I play whenever I have a gig. (As a matter of fact, it's the one I play with my morning coffee-my most creative time of day.)

We always wanted to meet the Iowa relatives there for a vacation/family reunion, but it never happened. Welcome to the OFC. It's good to have a member who doesn't also qualify for the Old Farts Club. |

Location: Eaton, Indiana | Welcome! I live in Indiana but moved here from Jamestown N D a number of years ago. I worked for Margurites Music in Jamestown before it moved to Morehead. I have owned a lot of Ovations over the years. Wish I could have kept all of them. Enjoy the site. Have fun.

Location: Boise, Idaho | Scott, I lived in Carrington in the 60s. Jamestown was the nearest "big city." In case anybody is starting to get the idea that we got run out of a lot of places, that's pretty close to the truth. |

Location: Hot Springs, S.D. | Mauvais Beal and Dave O, Hey, good to hear from you! Mauvais, do you remember Alison? She just loved her Gibson. She sold it when she moved, but she kept her Ovation! And hey Dave, I have to thank you for part of my store's name. When I decided to go for it, someone asked what I was going to call it, and I thought of "Dave's String Shop", but as my name isn't Dave, I decided to name it after the old home town.
To everyone else, thanks for the warm welcome! I will try to get some pictures posted, both of my Legend, and these beautiful Black Hills. Truely, I do live in paradise, and I have found my life's work. Not only do I buy and sell guitars, but I teach some of the most talented people I've ever met. Either the Hills draws talented people to them, or they bring out hidden talent in the people who live here. Either way, I'm so happy here, and I have truely found my home. |

Hills...

Let's see, my inspector # was 75. And as far as winter goes, we are in the "banana belt"! Seriously, winters in Hot Springs are mild compared to Ct. It often goes into the 50's, 60's and even occasionally 70's during the day, even in January. Of course, at night it get's down to the 20's, but that bright sun works wonders. Got lessons today, so I have to run. Talk to you soon. |

You can tell us the real stories, the ones you had to keep from the boss! I've been through the Black Hills several times. Maybe you saw me? I was the one on the Harley.
