I have an Adamas 1 cutaway in RED done as a baritone being made now at the factory. This one in the vid has a very wide nut. I hope I am not making a mistake in getting a standard width neck on mine?
I am also hoping mine sounds as nice as that one just did. I can't wait.

I was kind of thinking that too Randy, with just having mine done in Nov. It hurt just to look at that right arm hanging over that monster.

Nice. After watching the first one I noticed this link to Erick Turnbull (I think that was the name)

I've really been wanting a baritone, but not sure if I want to do an electric (probably Danelectro) or an AE, obviously Ovation if it's affordable.

such cool tones on both

Randy, I think a "true" wide neck baritone would be too much to handle. Remember that from a measurement standpoint the 2nd fret "E" would have approximately the dimensions of a regular tuned wide neck guitar. If it as a "wide neck" baritone, it would quickly eclipse the 2" width and be like playing a classical.

anyway....that's per my research when I was ordering my twins.

You are right I am sure. Just getting one of those, overly worried, second guessing myself, moments.
These Barritone guitars do open up so many possibilities for new sounding music. I figure if I have to I will capo it up if need be.

16's for strings????? 18's !! Wow never heard of such a thing before.

I would suggest 1 3/4. Not that much bigger but easier with those fatter strings.

Well Beal, not having the experience of playing one I told Al to do the regular width ? And to be absolutly honest with you, the screwed up and lenghty system the factory has in place to get a customer a quote and then the time it takes to get one done. No offence I love your guitars Bill I think you know that by now, and the guy's building them are the best dam luthiers anywhere, But I can't even begin to imagine the crap Al would have to go through if I asked him to change this now if I wanted to. If I could get you to email him it might go over better. You have no idea what that second custom guitar was like to get the numbers on. The Barotone was the first....if you see my point.
Now I sure wish I had the cash and the time to take the trip down. I'd love to try one of the wide necks on an ovation barritone. But since I am not attending this event and know of no other Baritones in my vacinity, I'll have to stay with the standard neck I guess.

Why are you apologizing? I don't work there, haven't in ten years. Frankly right now with everything on hold while they figure out how to fit in Guild there might be a real good chance of getting it changed. It's a special build anyway because of the neck. Doesn't hurt to ask a question.
The other side of this is call Cliff and ask him how he feels about the 1 11/16 longneck. He may tell you it is NO big issue. It's no secret that I hate 1 11/16 and they're too small for my hands, but it might be fine for you.
Just trying to help.

I know Bill, and thanks! I have big hands myself but narrow finger tips and have yet to have problems on most necks but I think you may be right about the baritone. I had never considered the width of those lower wound strings, the E must be the size of a Bass guitar A string. We will see.
My best course of action should have been to find a baritone wideneck to play first.
Could I ask what the gauge is on the low E string in a set of baritone 16's....18's ? Thanks

I've seen some around 60-64. I use just a regular set of 1818 on mine. Of course I only tune it to D. The 28" scale lets you tune down and keep the guage lighter.

Cool! Good pairing, baritone and slide, in my opinion.
Moving the soundhole out of the way of the top adds to the lower notes, don't it?

What are those "jacks" they rest their feet on? I want one. I use a little cardboard box, and it keeps squishing.

Those "jacks" are footrests. Al used to have some. They fold flat. Pretty simple and almost as cheap as a cardboard box.

I just ordered the "New Roots Duo" CD. Liked what I heard on "Blues for Buddy" link and love supporting the small artists!

I've got .014-0.59 on a skinny neck and I don't have a problem with it, but then I usually just learn to "adapt" to whatever guitar I have in my hands at the time. I don't have big hands, but I've got somewhat stocky fingers.

I've been playing skinny O-necks all my life, but I CAN tell you that a wide (especially Classical) neck is starting t'become more comfortable . .

Never mind, I found it. Right there on the video. Sheesh! Look before you leap, eh.
Anyway, dropped it right into my iTunes. Perfect! Good stuff.

There's nothing standard about a 2080D.

1818s came on all the long necks and mine too.

Good to know. It's time to change them out and I couldn't find anything that said what size they were.

Thanks
