I know I'm all over the place on this 12 string safari, but I am trying to be patient and not buy on an impulse. So, I am looking at ALL the options. Of course, I would like a really COOL looking guitar, and I keep hoping to find one laying about that fits my budget. But, I am trying to go for sound and a US made one, if I can get both.

What's the over all impression of the 2058 T ? I know one was sold back and forth in these forums, a while back, because the search button told me so. What's the current resale amount for one, now ? How would you place them in the pyramid of 12 strings from Ovation ?

I had one. It was Nice. Contour Bowl. And the Textured Top just let the vibrations Flow.
And a Tuna is always nice to have on any guitar, especially a 12er.
My T-12 went to Woody, so he might chime it.

(Now I have a Woody-Adamas 12er... So it all worked-out! )

Are the 2058 Ts hard to find ? I see the TX , off shore version, more frequently.

The USA 2058T's are probably impossible to find.
They were only made for less than a year before manufacture was transferred.
I searched hard for mine during the 2008 Blow-out sale.
I have only seen ONE on eBay... ever.

So if you see one, grab it.

The TX is trying to do an impression of the 2058T but don't be misled.
The USA made 2058T is an LX with a working man's paint job.

Grab one if you get the opportunity!

Me an OMA had a couple of the same ones (lost count) and wherever it is now the owner is a happy camper.

Jay,

Yeah. I saw that one. That was before I knew they were as rare as hen's teeth. I was assuming as they were pretty low key, and odd finished, they would be CHEAPER than some of the fancy Elites I had my eye on before. Now I know the story. So much for the cheaper idea.

BobG,

If I give you my PalPal address, just send me the money and I will just do it. Really.

12vers are a peculiar breed. Don't think you're gonna find a great one for 500 bucks, 'cos it's very unlikely. I don't even like 12 strings, but I do know the one's I've played that I actually sorta LIKED were well above a grand. $800 is a very reasonable price.

I don't need a great one. I'm just looking for the best deal I can get. Some one told me, back when I joined, that I should be patient and a good deal would come along. Given I may not play the 12 string as much as I THINK I might, I don't want to drop a grand to find out. If my litany of questions bothers you, I will keep my questions in the PM section, from now on.

Keep your thoughts and questions coming. Just wear your bullet-proof underwear.

This one in Anaheim, http://orangecounty.craigslist.org/msg/3231045214.html , is a good price and near mint.

We don't see them up for sale very often, which makes this the best deal going right now.

The 12-T is a great guitar for the money and then some.

It's close to me. I don't know where you are. I could give it my 100-point check-up and if it passes, pick it up and get it to you. If you are local, I'd even meet you and check it out with you.

Take the plunge on this one, you will be glad you did.

It's about an hour and a half from me. No big deal to drive. To be honest, I prefer the standard Elite look rather than the stealth look of this one. I just didn't know I was looking at a rare item when I checked out the listing. It's rarity makes me wonder if if would hold it's resale value better than some others.

It's hard to beat a good 12 string for rythm playing. I play mine often....love it. The 2058T's are supposed to sound fantastic...especially for the $$.

I think the "resale value issue" is needlessly paralizing you.

You are looking for a guitar in a price range where you grab the most for your money and don't look back. This is not an investment grade instrument. $800 for a solid 12-string that can handle the string tension of standard tuning, stays in tune, and sounds great unpluged and pluged-in... that's a great deal. I am sure it will hold its value, but sometimes it's worth 100 bucks to play a guitar for a year and then try something else.

The 12-T is different. I have seen/had too many standard Elites. Going cheaper... most of the time you get what you pay for. The last thing you want is a 12-string with issues. Sure, you might find the buy-of-a-lifetime, but there will probably be 50 other guys with their eyes on it. I would rather be playing than waiting and looking. We have all been there.

Noah,

I didn't mean that a resale value was any sort of criteria for my purchase. I only mentioned it because it is going for well more than I wanted to spend and I was trying to talk myself into the increase. A little right brain - left brain argument. It's nothing I have thought about until just now.

I've never been in the " buy - try - sell - repeat " cycle. I generally buy and keep. I don't have a collection that I am trying to build. I guess if you DO that sort of thing, you buy and sell all the time. It's not something I've really considered. This one only popped into my head BECAUSE it was "rare".

You're probably right about all the other people seeing the same killer deal I am trying to get. The internet gives the same info to the whole world at the same time. Even if my "Google Foo" is strong, I'm not the only one who can find the buy of a lifetime.

OK, back to the guitar...

Wouldn't the textured finish ,on the spruce top, kill the tone ?

Actually it does the Opposite... It releases the tone.

I'm a rookie in this forum. I still need info, so I can't bite the hands that feed me. More witty come backs may follow when I don't need you anymore.

Arthur ain't lyin'! The textured enamel is both thinner and stronger than the glossy finish, which is where the unique tone of the T tops comes from. In addition, the American T tops were significantly thinner than the Korean TX tops (about half as thin). As a result, while the TX's tone comes pretty close to the sound of the T when plugged in, when unplugged the TX loses a lot of the T's tone. The other difference between the TX and the T is that the TX went with tinted rosewood instead of ebony on the fretboard and bridge, and with the newer quintad bracing over the older X bracing. These 3 differences (the top, the fretboard/bridge, and the bracing) make the TX cheaper to build, and you can hear the difference when unplugged.

All the differences I never knew about. I just thought it was boring looking. It sounds like the "sleeper" guitar.

Back in 2006 I thought that the Flame T's looked Stupid and the Reverse Blue Adamas was Fugly.

Now I have two Flamers and I really want a Reverse Blue Adamas....

Perceptions change.

And if I had the money I would get that 2058T
