Location: Vernon CT | I have 2 Older Ovations from the Mid "70's" that have a Musty odor that I can smell when playing.
Anyone have any idea's or "remedies" to get rid of the odor? |

Second, if they are CaseKept, you might try carpet cleaner on the case lining.
Third, you might try an AirFreshener inside the body. |

Location: Vernon CT | It's not the case, I know that for sure.
I have sprayed air freshener on a rag, enough to wet the rag and wiped the entire inside bowl portion down. The smell disappears for a very short time. Next day it's back. As far as your first suggestion, I'll have to try that, never thought it could be me!! :D :D |

leave out- let dry-ultraviolet light kills mildew-mold...... then baking soda absorbs odor
the odor is in the wood |

Location: Whitecourt, Ab | If that doesn't work here's a Canadian recipe that might help: rim with celery salt & realime,over ice add 4 parts Mott's clamato and 1-4 parts vodka, 1 dash hot sauce, 2 dashes worcestershire sauce, 1 dash salt and pepper, garnish with celery and lime.
Repeat as required until odor is irrelevant. This may also temporarily improve your singing and playing ability and increase your libido. ( may have to hide small farm animals if extreme repetition is required) |

But I do not know what chlorine will do to wood!
Dry it out? Or make it slimy, like it does my hands.
Anyway, all mildew-killer formulas and basically bleach.

Location: Vernon CT | I kind of thought that the smell was more from the wood then the bowl it's self. When I got both guitars, the inside of the bowls were very dirty & dusty. I was hoping the smell would come out, but. alas, it did not.
What would you all think about applying an Lemon oil on the uderside of the sound board?? |

You can buy it in auto parts stores. They use it in rental cars to remove the stink of smokers. It works great. I bought an old classical that someone used as an ash tray. I removed the strings and sprayed the inside of the guitar with Ozium. I sprayed the entire inside of the case with Ozium pretty heavily. I put the guitar in the case and put it away for about 3 days. I opened it and the smoke smell was completely gone. This was suggested to me by Stonebobbo, and what better endoresement do you need than that?

Seriously though, as Tup..uh, I mean whatever his name is now said, Ozium works with most smells. We used to use it when we were smoking ...uh....cigars, yeah, thats the ticket. |
