So... if you are a luthier or want a custom guitar (or other instrument) made using any maple... Here's a rare chance...

We've come by a rare OldGrowth maple which lost a HUGE limb, a "tree" in itself. If you know what "Old Growth" is, you will appreciate this wood. We've already milled some guitar back blanks and the wood is utterly magnificent.

We will be milling blanks for backs, sides, tops and necks. If you are interested in getting some of this wood, or would like a custom cut, email me through this board.

The wood will need to season and dry for a good number of months, so you'll need to wait for it but, it will be worth it.

We nearly herniated ourselves getting it up on the mill. See pics below

Around here the Meth Addicts have been bust'in into the Lumber business. I like your Green approach!

A nice cut of that crotch section would make a lovely table! (Shut up guys!)

Jef, you ever think about contacting a luthier and selling it to them? I bet you'd make a pretty penny!! Of course thats after the OFC get their fair share! ;)
Very nice offer.

We are contacting luthiers and such but, as you say, gotta make the offer to the OFC'ers.

Just so y'all know, Acoustic flattop Tops, Backs and Side will be book matched and quarter sawn.

Billets for solid bodies and neck will be specially selected.

Bet everyone's interested now!

BTW, who says OFC guitars have to have carbon fiber tops? I know maple isn't the best top-wood, but I'm also partial to the laminated Collectors' Series ala the 99C and 02C. And I love, I mean LOVE, really nice quilted maple! ;)

'Course, I got no money to throw at all this pipe dreamin'.

So, if this works out, are you going to accidentally knock down the rest of the tree? ;)

I'm surprised TJ hasn't bought the entire tree.

This is definitely an example of having a little vision and seizing the opportunity. If it was me, I would have already added another cord to the woodpile.

That's a mighty handsome Pivee Pole you got there JW, any chance of seeing your Adze?

We are going to go deeper into this log this week (and next).
As we mill, we will be looking for specific sections that meet specific requests.

If you are interested and not already on "The List" ... PM me before this weekend.

My neighbor has been trying to get me to take down a large maple in the back yard (gets a couple of leaves on his artificial turf, well maybe a ton of leaves).

Hmmm, may be a reason to finally take it down.

Just curious, how would my namesake tree (closely related to maple) compare as a luthiery material? My dad some from pruning his trees a few years ago. I have a long-term plan to build a solid body electric some day.

Sycamore,
this is going to get confusing. As you are from that side of the pond, there might be an issue around nomenclature.

"Sycamore" there is what we here call "Maple". "Sycamore" here is a variety of what you would call "Plane" there.

In any case, "Sycamore" Maple and "Plane" do have uses as luthiery wood but, not necessarily the same applications. And I depends on which we are actually talking about, which is best done using latin.
