I played Q10 most of the time and it sounded very woody and this was with slightly rusty strings. I managed to snag Q8 for a few brief moments when Cliff was digging through the cooler and with the new strings on Q8 is sounded even sweeter.

Hind sight looking back to Ovations situation when this was developed (2000?) I can understand why they didn't bring it to market. As good as it is, it was wildly expensive by Ovation standards ($5999) and would appeal to a very limited audience. How many would they actually sell? Remember this was pre-OFC days. It was probably a wise business decision to kill it. If by some miracle Al does come up with a limited run, would I buy one? I don't know. For the 5, 6, 7, whatever thousand it might cost there are a lot of other things you can do with that money. Dave

Dave, that's exactly why I said the factory could at least give us a price to scare us all away. At 5-7000 I would probably pass also but at least I would have the option based on the price.

The CA I have is all carbon fiber, no wood at all even the bridge and fret board, and since the neck is esentially one piece with the body, it has no truss rod. You could float this thing in a pool for a week, and other than the strings rusting, there wouldn't be a thing wrong with it, and...it would still be in perfect tune. I would think the Q would be the same construction.

The heaviest part of this guitar would be the preamp I would want dropped into it. I wasn't impressed with the stealth black. Maybe some Elite T flames judiciously placed to cover some of the black? Then again, maybe the paint would affect the tone of the otherwise pure and presumably polished carbon. These are experimental guitars at the edge of materials technology. It was an honor to have an opportunity to play them.

If they were making them, $6,000 would probably be too steep for me. At $4,000, I'd probably start saving! It's a different animal.

I think around 2000 they had the ones with the wavey sound holes. Don't know how many of them there were. They were OK but not the same animal at all. It's well said to say they are ahead of their time now, and this is ten years after.

At least, I remember asking about that guitar and being told it was a Q. It looked killer, but I didn't take it down. The top was red sparkle painted and it sort of "bursted" over the edge and down the sides. Or maybe it was the back that was painted and it bursted up over the edge? Anyway it looked damn cool. $10k you say, Beal? More than I'd spend on one, but I only buy Al's left over stuff (strangely it's always a great bargain and turns out to be an exceptional instrument), so that's not saying much. Still...very cool guitar and it's interesting to hear people's thoughts on actually playing one/them.

An interesting observation about the clinic, I didn't see or her much AvsB comparisions of guitars, the focus seemed to be much more on the music and each other, which is a good thing. Maybe I just missed it cause I was busy caught up in enjoying it and making sure it all went smoove. I refer back to Lanaki's question about what did Matt think about the 75 when he played it. I don't recall that he said anything at all. He used my C-10 for most of the class and it worked well, the brightness of the guitar could cut through all 25 of us trying to noodle through what he just showed us.

Seriously though, the C-10 was a great soundin git. How could we have forgotten a hands on comparison with all of those wonderful guitars in one place. Too much fun I reckon. That does need to be on the list next time. hmmmm.....maybe we can do a mini-comparison at he SS Jam II. Some great gits comin, but not like there was at the Guitar 'd Gras.
