With the exception of touring & playing all of their old tunes are there any older bands releasing anything new? We all seem to still go see CSN&Y The Moody Blues ,The Rolling Stones and remenise of how great they are but they seem to have run out of GAS with hitting another NEW big song or album. Have they just given up on trying new things and just become satisfied with what they have accomplished or maybe their musical songs just dont fit into todays scene? GOT ME ? GWB

The last three acts I went to see played "maybe" 3 new songs and everything else was from their hit albums. I didn't go see the Stone's to hear something recent, I wanted "Satisfaction" :p

I loved the new album. They're coming back to the Gorge end of May. My tix are 2 seats away from the stage, right in front of Geddy! I kinda like the newest release from John Fogerty too. Plant and Krause got together last year and though it probably doesn't count, I think that CD was fabulous. As for the Stones. I don't think they have had a decent release since Steel Wheels. Just my opinions.

Y'all made me think, and realize, that all the bands/musicians that I really wanna see are older than me, and that means that they are pretty old. All the bands that I consider "New" are getting pretty old too... Gracie Slick said, "Who wants to see any 60 year-old up on stage?" (Commenting on the Rolling Stones... That was the Tour-before-last :p ) I believe Robert Plant will be 60 this August 20th, and he still has his pipes.

Oh, and Eddie Vedder is older than me, just to keep it in perspective. I don't have much respect for the musicians of "my generation."

Crosby and Nash's last album was also incredible. As for Neil Young, I am a huge fan of his, but I think that he puts out a lot of crap these days. It seems that he puts out one good album for every three bad ones. Just my opinion.

There are a few other though - Tull still puts on a great show, but I don't think they've released a studio album for about 6 or 7 years. Same with Little Feat. They tour and crank out live CDs, but not much new stuff over the last decade. Deep Purple Still tours and record extensively. Steve Morse was a great addition to that band he managed to fit in well and bring his own style as well. Every time Jeff Beck releases something it's new and different, he keeps on innovating. As for Blues guys - they just keep rollin. John Mayall has a new CD out, but it's all remakes of Freddie King and Albert King tunes. His 70th birthday concert from a couple of years ago is great!

What has happened to their abilities to create great music like they used to.When was the last time one of the seasoned bands had a major hit that stuck in your mind like Dark Side Of The Moon 4 Way Street Hotel California Tommy/Quadrophinia Just to name a few and I will bet ya you all know who the artists are without having to name them but just by the album. That is what I was trying get across Are they satisfied with their past doings or are they out of gas to create new stuff? GWB

Is there an alignment of the planets, some major event that happened at the same time a song was released, etc...What I consider a hit and what mainstream radio may consider a hit are way different animals. Sure some of those you listed hit across the board, but how many of them were the result of total airwave saturation? Kind of like forced upon the listener to accept and eventually like? Myself, I never connect with the Beatles, nor Pink Floyd, nor The Who. The music I grew up listening on the radio was vastly different to my album collection. Which is probably why I prefer early rock and 50's Rockabilly over the majority of the 60's and 80's bands. There is a part of me that likes the folksy songs of the 70's, that where the Eagles and Buffett fill the void. Another group that I thought never really got the recognition was George Theorogood and the Deleware Destroyer. Bad to the Bone made the charts but most of the rest were rarely played. I still drop in a little G.T. whenever I make a roadtrip, the music has a great groove, makes time slip by and the slide work is awesome...

Right now all of them just download, many of them without paying for it. My other opinion that I don't care if you share, is that, by and large, music sucked since sometime in the 80s or even sooner. The hair bands were frankly fads that couldn't last. Then we went into rap crap, boy bands and young girls that mostly just looked good. With MTV and all the videos, no one does want to see old people trying to make music. The people that buy music now are much more into the visual than the audio, so when the artists start looking old, no one is going to buy their music, because they don't look good in the videos.

One of the best bands I've ever seen perform. And they are a great roadtrip soundtrack - until you see the blue lights in the rearview and realize just how fast you've been groovin'!

In reading a few books on rock bands now I notice there are periods that it seems as though the chest of ideas becomes empty. I suppose after you have created album after Album each year throughout the 70's and etc. there is only so much new direction anyone can take anymore. The fact that your no longer young and creatively hungry and you have "been there done that" so many times it must get to be like a job has to wear on the creative jucies of any band or individual. There are some good examples of some old musicians who are still creating! My hats off to them. I am going to RUSH this summer myself. Can't wait! and if Zeppelin does their thing, I'll bite the bullet and pay the $250- $500 for a decent ticket to see them as well. They don't need to do anything new for me. Same applies with bands like Floyd, Yes, Genesis. They already created the most amazingly perfect pieces of music years ago. Randy

Plenty of old artists are making what is some of their best music... if you wanna make panties wet, well that's one thing but, it's not necessarly good music.

I have not Bought an "album" in years, and that was the Led Zeppelin anthology CD. As to radio, I listen to NPR News, and old Blues and Celtic Music, and whatever Garrison Kieller plays on Prairie Home Companion. The corporate radio plays Rap, Britney, and Classic Rock. Even the Progressive Rock stations play Punk from the Seventies. What ever happen the the Black Chicks with the awesome voices and broken hearts? You cannot even find any good R&B (except for NPR Old Stuff). I listen to my computer play lists, which is ancient stuff. And cover-songs on YouTube looking for guitar tips.
